Like Bob he wasn't the most polished singer but his singer/songwriting skills made a lasting impression on popular music at that time. And he was to pop music what Andy Warhol was to art ( which is why Andy had such a close association with Lou. RIP Lou ... take a walk on the peaceful side ...

But he was a major influence on me, especially during the 'Berlin' years. My post wasn't a slam of Berlin... just a recognition of how profoundly down it is. Which in my book ain't a bad thing! Music should try to express the complete range of emotions humans can feel, and Lou Reed succeeded at an emotion few songwriters really try to define. _________________________ An arranger is just a tool. The intended meaning wasn't obvious to me. Yes I totally agree with you. And yes Lou isn't known for his happy songs but he had a profound influence on popular music. Music had got so overtly 'happy' it was refreshing to have someone to balance it out.
