Finally with Tyros 5, we are at last able to comp keys
the way a traditional piano/keyboard player does when playing with a live combo without a bass player. guitar

Left Hand: Bass Line
Right Hand: Comping Chords

Happy to see this finally, though certainly LATE in the game for Yamaha as I believe the other arranger manufacturers have supported this for years.

yeah ... what HE said!
Been doing that for most of my career. Love playing my own bass lines. In previous Yamaha models, you had to use the lower sound and reassign the arranger to follow the right hand .... too many hoops. I love the layout that Korg uses for this - there is a simple button that shuts off the accompaniment bass and sends it to the left zone of the keys.
My set up is refined one (well, 3) steps further by assigning the programmable buttons to toggle on/off, the lower bass tone (which I prefer for manual bass), the 1-5 arranger tracks and the auto bass track. It makes for seamless transitions from auto to manual within a song or medley.

Thanks for posting this Scott.

I have a buddy who is using an ancient Ensoniq 76 note synthesizer (with bass patch in left hand) with a drum machine...he's ready to go for the gold, and once he sees this demo, I think it will be a done deal.

Yamaha has always been famous for it's keyboard related bass sounds, beginning with the DX-7, which was used on nearly every hit during the 80's, especially the Disco stuff.

I'm wondering if the Tyros5 has additional (new) bass sounds, perhaps SA based, to take advantage of this long overdue new feature.

On the Korgs, the bass tone assigned to the style gets selected by the "manual bass" button. This is why I choose to select my own sound from the library and assign it to the lower section of the keyboard. I like the same bass player on every tune, and sometimes, the pre-selected bass does not respond as well by hand as it does by program commands.
Just sayin' ....

I suspect the Tyros5 will give much the same choices...probably the "Freeze" function for registrations will allow the locking in of one bass sound, regardless of right hand patches and style selected. I'll know for sure in a week or so when another clients gets his Tyros5-76, although the info may be in the available on-line manual.

Personally I never use LH bass, preferring bass pedals if manual is necessary...however, I'm sure this new feature will appeal to many, such as my friend with the Ensoniq.

Scott, do you use left hand bass very often?
