How is one able to use the GM set in my keyboard as a sound source for my Notation Midi sequencer on my PC. I have modules like SD2 I can use, but maybe I don't have to carry it. I have some special songs I play over, and want better quality that WAve synth.
I am not sure how to get the program to recognize the keyboard.

Hello: Providing that the midi file has embedded the program and controllers for the tracks/channels, any keyboard should play correctly. As an example, the Yamaha keyboards have all the GM, XG, GM2 plus the Panel tone generation, (besides other banks like Legacy, sound banks from previous models, this is what keeps compatible any midi file made from an older model to the newer, does not necessarily means that are better sounds on the new model, simply, is playing the same voices/sounds from the previous model. Some people edit their midi files by Re-voicing each track (make a Program change) of the Midi file with the better or newer tone generation from the newer keyboard. That is why in the Program change of each Channel/Track has the proper bank and patch number that is assigned. Most professional SMFs have this data. I hope this helps you.

Thanks guys.
I did get my Yamaha S910 to play the midi using my Midisport with midi in and USB. I sure don't have the knowledge to do any track editing, and I am sure my results would be better than what I got.
It was partially better, but the wrong drums were used, etc. The SD2 module is the best solution for me, but I wanted to try anyway.
Thanks for your time.

Diki
Thanks, but I did hook it up with midi and reported as such. Maybe I missed something.
