I'm a headset mic guy, Donny, Fran and Dave love their handhelds, Don Mason is trying to cope with a headset, but it probably won't happen. My ONLY gripe about the Crown CM-311A is it just ain't pretty. Some folks with bad eyesight thought I had a cigar stump in my mouth before they realized it was the mic. I tried many competitors, including Countryman E6, and others and never come up with anything remotely close to the vocal qualities that the CM-311A produced.

Just got an email from Don Mason, and wanted to know if anyone here had the opportunity to try out the new Samson Airline Earset system. Samon Airline Micro Earset System To me it looks pretty neat, lightweight, and because it is flesh colored, situated to the side of the mouth, I would look less intrusive to the audience.

Samson also came out with a new Q8, which replaced the Q7. Samson makes some really great mics, and the prices are pretty darned good as well. When I was using a handheld, that Q7 beat the socks off my old Shure SM58s.

I bought a Q8 off eBay. It arrived today and I tried it for a few minutes. Seems like a really good mic. Warm and smooth with a solid feel. Just what I need, another mic!

The Airline Micro looks really good, but unfortunately only comes in an omnidirectional version. I had problems with that when using the speakers on my keyboard.

I tried the Micro for a couple months, some drop outs, prone to interference sometimes, very uncomfortable for my ear..It was decent sounding but needed to be eq'd differently than the hand helds..I had to sell it at a loss..

I still like my Q7, I don't think the Q8 is much different..

Thanks Fran, and others. I looked at the specs and from what I read it appeared to be prone to feedback. Not for me, I guess I'll stick with the CM311A for the time being.

Q8 seems to have better frequency response and sounds a little better overall than Q7, to me.
