I thought this demo was one of the better ones for what some of us on here do.

Hey Don, I'm on the fence. I have the PA900 coming. I want to add variety to my show and thought about adding the BK module and midi through my 900. I also need to find more on the iPad (since I have one) capabilities.

Have you tried the module this way?

Has anyone tried the module this way?

Just used the BK7M Midied to a 61 note controller. Worked great, great sound. Should work fine with your Yamaha.

Thanks Bill - only correction is I plan to midi through my Korg PA900. Not keeping (probably) the Motif.

Not for me - I already have a keyboard that apparently does the same thing and not nearly as bulky, though it is very lightweight.

Gary cool

Heavier than an BK-9, though, Gary (if weight matters... I guess it doesn't! LOL).

Zuki, Depending on whether you LIKE the more modern sound of a WS and chord following arpeggiators, loop players and the like, you might find yourself in a more flexible place musically if you run a BK-7m from a decent WS, like the modern Motif's, Krome's, MO's, etc..

I would think that, if you are doing more modern musics, or smooth jazz (much of that is breakbeat and arpeggiator centric, these days), or you want a more easily programmable lead sound choice, the combination of an arranger with a WS could widen your sonic palette quite a bit.

I think this is better than the reverse... trying to run a modern WS or WS module from an arranger, which tends to be pretty inflexible with regard to MIDI implementation, and tasking buttons and sliders to control external gear.

Which Motif do you have?

Yeah, but three pounds ain't gonna make that much difference to me, Diki. I can handle that. 20 poundds V/S 23 pounds ain't gonna break my back.

The thing that you miss out on not going from the BK-7m up to the BK-9 is quite significant, IMO.

Primarily, the Chord Sequencer (not in the BK-5/3/7m OS yet, if ever), and the audio key feature, to play audio loops in sync with the arranger. Just those two things alone push the BK-9 out of the MOTL market and into the TOTL segment, especially in comparison to the other BK's.

The B3 emulation clone is also a massive improvement over the lower BK-s. SN (SA type sounds) as well, and a boatload of other stuff, but as a BK-7m owner, I could not pass on the BK-9 when it came out, despite much of the sound and style set being similar. Those features made it a must buy.

Sounds are sounds, you can work around most shortcomings. But FEATURES, especially radical ones not available on anything else, that's what makes something a must buy, for me...
