After 10 years Yamaha is introducing the replacement for the ELS 01 organ (ELS 02) however the most intriguing news is that a hardware/software upgrade will be available to upgrade the older instruments to the latest spec at a fraction of the price required to trade in the old for the new.

The question is, if the organ division can do it with a 10 year old organ, why can’t the arranger division do it with a 3 year old Tyros 4?

Enjoy

Bill

Actually they could do it... hardware/software combined update..

But it would be to expensive... more expensive then selling your old one and buying a new one.

However the organs are much more expensive, so there it is an atractive system

I believe Wersi does similar updates, do they not, Bill?

I can't see the major arranger manufacturers like Yamaha, Roland and Korg doing it...selling new instruments is far more profitable.

The organ business is far too limited to make it viable to create a whole new hardware instrument.

Korg and Roland already do considerable updating to existing models. Only Yamaha seem hell bent on making you buy a new arranger to get each and every improvement they think up.

I can see the point in updating those older organs, though... Not so many people are going to trade out a five figure organ for the latest every few years, especially how soft the used organ market is.
