If we didn't have gigs, we'd all be playing accordions on the corner. smile

I should mention a friend of mine almost never plays gigs but makes a living recording music tracks for library music that get picked up and used by TV shows, commercials etc. And those tracks can get used over and over again providing an ongoing stream of income for him. Of course they all need to be be original compositions. He just works on increasing the number of tracks that he has available. Most of it is smooth jazz which appeals to many countries.

1/2 my gigs are to generate high dollar work for my daytime production company.

At this age, not sure why I continue to do the ones that USED TO result in me getting laid (LOL)!

OH WELL!

... and so what's bad about playing accordion on a corner? A good corner could reap a tidy sum ...

I mean we would play for the sake of playing. A street corner can be a really good gig for some people. Those of us who have the music within us have to let it out somehow and hence, we would play at home in the basement or out in the elements. Some of us just need to play and others feel the need to be heard.

Yup - that's why I always charge to set up and tear down only, and then I sing for FREE!

Gigs to me are the balzs. There is no better feeling than playing live music at a venue. Wedding, party, fair, any kind of get together. You never know whats going to happen during a set. Most of my gigs are with 4-6 other players depending on what we as the "band" see fit. Making a lot of money does not matter too much. All of my mates are "set in their retirement", and this is mental health therapy, more than time away from the wife. We all enjoy playing and making the music. It puts smiles on people, gets them up dancing, and lets us all remember the days when you could make out what they were singing. party
