Well, Hurricane Sandy and Katrina were at least covered a lot worldwide at the time they happened, whereas it doesn't seem to be the case with the current Balkan floods.
But it surely is a bitter fact in life that events which are geographically closer get much more attention even if other events are much worse.
This is an impressive satellite picture of the Sava river in the Balkan, a comparison of its normal condition with the present flood seen from space. (The Sava river is a main tributary of the Danube, its average discharge is about 2,000 cubic meters per second near its mouth, which corresponds to the lower Rhine river or a third of the Mississippi discharge upstream of the Ohio mouth).
