I've recently made some purchases with the thought of either replacing my s950 or at least having a second complete setup. First, I bought a BK7m, so there's the possible competition. I then bought a 61 key Roland PCR-800 controller and the FC7 footswitch to use with the BK7m. I haven't tried it yet, but Don M. tells me there are already some saved programs on the 800 for the BK.

Now, I've made a trade of my Hammond XK1 for a SK1/73. This keyboard and the BK7m could become my new go-to setup once I learn the ins and outs of both.

I still plan to use my Bose Compact, but the Roland BA-330 might give me more mixing capabilities. I've even considered buying an HK Nano 300 if I can sell the BA-330.

What are your thoughts or opinions on any of this? The s950 is so comfortable and easy to use, but the Hammond-BK pairing seems like a possible killer setup.

Cass, if you want to play lots of organ ... the Hammond is the way to go. If you want that easy to tweak, OMB flexibility only a hardware slab can provide - the 950 is a killer solution. If you're not button crazy ... you might really enjoy the old school Hammond sound with simple, solid Roland patterns behind you. If you need to make lots of changes on the fly - a one piece instrument is still my choice.

Cass...as much as i like yamaha (and i have had several) their organs just don't cut it...the hammonds (if you are an organ player) will give you a more enjoyable experience - with waterfall keys and real drawbars. plus the new hammonds have other usable sounds avail...sounds like a very light and fun new system you just acquired...stevec

I don't know anything about the keyboards, but the Ba330 is easy to setup, easy to EQ and works very well if you want to add effects to an additional singer (or yourself if you cannot do that through the keyboard). I just bought the Nano 300 as a personal monitor for home - awesome!

Cass, it would be real difficult to beat the combination of the S-950 and Bose L1 Compact. Great sounds, very portable, and lightweight for old codgers like me and you.

Good Luck,

Gary cool

IMHO your going to need a sub or another powered speaker to make that BA330 useable. Nice mixer but no punch at all on that unit and if your doing organ stuff like I am you need the power. I was excited and really wanted mine to work but sent it back the same day I got it.

New developments. It seems the SK1 may not be mine after all. The owner misunderstood the deal and ended up wanting another $200. So now we're back to using the XK1, but that makes the BK7m even more useful. I will try the Hammond-Roland setup this week and report back.
