Alec,

Thanks, it's a very useful document and I often refer people to Willum's Pages for KN7000 information. Gunnar's site is about the other keyboards so I don't drive traffic for KN7000 to that website because visitors there aren't looking for it.

Nigel,

This website has thousands of pages of excellent Technics keyboards information and I often send people here to gain more knowledge, especially email correspondents. There is no better wide-ranging resource than Synthzone for all brands of arranger workstations. The existence of similar sites with complementary aims only goes to fuel people's enthusiasm and enjoyment as I know you understand.

Best wishes,
Mike

PS Nigel I'm now curious about what keyboard you have... and of course I'll stop being your friend if it's not a Technics, lol!

Mike I use a Yamaha Motif 6 keyboard in the classic rock band I play with http://aband.com but I also have an old Yamaha PSR-550 arranger.

Nigel,

Wow, your band sounds amazing! Motif is a brilliant keyboard I would love to have one of those for sure.

Best wishes,
Mike

Nigel, I have always had high regard for you and have mentioned on occasion, years ago, appreciation of your being the administrator of the Technics forum. I am quite surprised that you are a "rocker" and don't own a Technics keyboard. However, you are administrator on various other forums that support other keyboards. With music, I suppose it boils down to what we are inspired by when growing up. I grew up with Rock 'n Roll and never took to it. I was further along in music than playing three-chord harmony. My parent's music inspired me greatly and it is the music that I made lots of money playing and had a very successful career playing and singing thirties and forties music. Being featured nightly in New York for many years and playing Rock 'n Roll, I would have been fired and certainly wouldn't have held onto high paying jobs as I did. My average engagements were two years and more. My last engagement before moving back to California was three years, two months. I must have done something right with all the talent in New York City.

I think many on the forum would be interested in knowing how you, as administrator of the Technics forum, don't own or play a Technics keyboard. This is especially true with the no longer availability of Technics keyboards and especially, the high praise of the KN7000.

Regards,

Scott Reed

I only play in a live band so an arranger doesn't get a lot of use. Though I do use a Yamaha PSR-550 for working out band parts but mostly not in arranger mode. Synth Zone has always provided forums for all brands of keyboard for close on 20 years but that has never meant that I owned all the keyboards I have forums for.

I am thinking my next stage keyboard is most likely to be a Korg Kronos. I like all sorts of music from jazz to rock but I currently play in a rock cover band. Not all rock is 3-chord harmony. One of my favorite bands to hear live is Steely Dan, and their material is anything but 3-chord harmony. On the other hand 3-chord harmony works fine for the right song and arrangement. Sometimes 'simple' can be powerful and elegant in the right hands.

Remember folks music is the only true world language no matter what is your mother tongue, music is spoken by all musicians, the style we all of us use rock, pop, big band, whatever is only the expression of our way of using the language.

Nigel, I meant no disrespect to your playing Rock music - it came as a surprise. You are right when it comes to certain songs written in three-chord harmony. "Cow, Cow, Boogie" comes to mind, along with many songs that singers like Dinah Washington and Billie Holiday sang and made hits with. As we know, this harmony is based on Blues. The Rock band that stands out in my mind as being one of the greatest is The Little River Band. All those guys were real musicians. Even though they had several hits in the seventies and early eighties, they received only a lukewarm reception in the United States. I never understood that. Perhaps they were too good for the "ears" that heard them.

Little River Band are from my home town Melbourne, Australia. So is AC/DC. In the early 80s I played in a band The Name http://girlscanswing.com that opened for INXS at many of their shows. After that I worked with Guy McDonough http://www.guymcdonough.com who sang and wrote for a successful band Australian Crawl who were produced by David Briggs from Little River Band.
