Hi,
l added this question to another recent question l asked concerning connecting the keyboard to a comp. Thought it better to start a new thread. Here is my question. Hope someone can advise, thanks in advance.

l've now got another question which has arisen from my original. As l've already pointed out, l'm not much cop with technology etc, and wonder if any of you guys can advise? l've always fancied being able to find a programme that will allow me to print music from a pre recorded music CD. If l'm understanding this right, from what l've read, you can change the CD WAV file to a MIDI file, then download that to one of the music notation software programmes and then be able to print off the music.

Hope this makes sense, and l haven't misunderstood what l've read lol. If this is possible what is the best/cheapest solution to do this? Many thanks for any help again.

Hi Gambler,

There are some standalone programs that will try to do this sort of conversion and several of the big Digital Audio Workstation pieces of software have some limited capabilities. The technology will get there someday but it isn't anywhere near yet as far as I can tell.

This video explains it better than I ever could and is well worth a watch:

My son is doing Music Technology in college and he's telling me that there are tools used by major studios to do it but they still require editing. No doubt it will filter down to us but it seems that it's a few years away.

Best wishes,
Mike

Hi Mike,
Thanks for taking the time to reply. What you've told me was what l sort of feared might be the case, Luckily l've found another notation programme that will allow me to download midi files that are already out in the wild. Not brilliant, but at least l have something as a starting point
