How exactly do you sample into the Tyros 4?

I want to make custom drum kits using drum samples i have lying around on my PC from different libraries and instruments.

is there a tutorial anywhere online for this?

Thanks
Nick

I don't own a Tyros, but I know you need the software Voice Creator for it, and you need to import individual samples as WAV files and then assign them to keyboard zones.
Below you find a description, unfortunatwly in German, maybe you can use an automatic translator to understand most of it:
Sorry, I don't manage to insert the link with the Surface I'm presently using. The main website is www.eifelsounds.de

That's the link. Just found out how to copy and paste with a Microsoft Surface Pro 3 wink

This is interesting... I am the only one answering to this question although I don't even own a Tyros. Could this indicate that most Tyros users are not interested in adding waveforms? I know what many would answer: "Everything is already included in the preset sounds". I don't think so, you can always add more specialized and more perfect samples.
BTW, is the Voice creator available for Tyros 5 now?

Well I did do a fair amount of loading samples into my previous 3 Tyros keyboards, but it is literally a pain in the butt!

The Voice Creator is not complete for the T5 as yet - estimated to be by December.

One has to wonder at Yamaha's purpose when they made the Tyros and Motif wave forms exactly opposite of each other - both contain the exact same information for wave forms.

Sorry, but the procedure is much too complicated to explain here - try going to the PSRTUTORIAL.com forum for a step by step help.

Ok I have tackled this task and absolutely mastered it!!

It is EASY AS PIE!!!!!

Basically u just copy n paste WAV samples onto a USB stick.
insert the USb into your T4.

Go to "expansion" and then select "Import".
u immediately then get taken into the WAV sample list in your expansion memory and u can easily open the contents of your USB stick and select each wav individually (or group select) and then import them into the on board memory.

Once they are in the memory u can then go to a drum kit, go into the drumkit editor and u can then map all the drum kit voices to an individual sample from your expansion memory.

I have managed to make a complete custom techno/dance kit - it does take time to perfect the mapping so your styles trigger off the correct samples (if you are using pre set styles)...

I have also got a full live stage / rock kit which is a great replacement for most of the standard acoustic drum kits.

I will take some audio samples of me playing them live and post them - but basically this small amount of work has completely changed my Tyros 4 into a complete different machine.

I did a quick google search last night and found pages and pages of all the original Roland 808 and 909 full drum samples, Korg Triton, Akai, Yamaha Motif Etc. they are all in 44khz WAV format and import directly into the T4. and each sample is less than 50kb so they are lightweight and hardly take up any memory.

So you were able to do it without the voice creator. I guess this only works for drum kits because the Tyros allows you to assign drum samples to keys (like any keyboard does in case of drum kits), but you wouldn't be able to assign other instrument multisamples to keyzones without the software.

I havent done it with actual voices (yet).

Ide like to import my own bass samples and if possible - new grand piano voices.. but from what i have seen / heard I am not liking my chances.

would be great if there were some third party sites selling voices that import straight into the T4 just how you can for the Motif Series but unfortunately I cant seem to find any.

At least for now I have addressed the drums which is great.

Most folks here say they are happy with the standard built in drums but they just didn't cut it for me.

I was bummed by that, too (although I never plannes to buy a Tyros): it has the flash board option, but the Motif sample libraries cannot be used for it... Installing piano multisamples yourswlf must be painstaking, a good piano waveform has got individual samples for all 88 keys in several velocity layers... (the Roland SRX 11 piano therefore has 704 samples, 88 keys x 4 layers x 2 for left/right).
