There are two recording systems shown on my Tyros 4. The one to the left of the screen is a recorder and the one to the right of the screen shows audio recorder player. I'm not sure I know the difference between the two?

One records midi, which is a system of digital commands that tell the instrument what to play. The audio recorder records sound.
Audio recordings will sound the same regardless of the playback device. Midi recordings are dependant upon the set of sounds available on the playback device.
Audio can record your vocals. Midi cannot.

I did post this on the PSR forum..but there are some knowledgeable folks here so I thought I would repost it.

I've been reading as much as I can about recording with my Tyros 4.

It appears that final mix is always done by bouncing tracks to the original two track stereo master...?? In other words, two tracks are recorded, then a third is recorded and bounced(via a mix) to the original two tracks and a fourth track is recorded and bounced to the original two stereo tracks...and so on.

I'm asking this question because my(now ancient) Roland VS2480 is able to record up to 24 tracks which I could then mix to two stereo tracks. The advantage of course, is that I could remix the original tracks if I didn't like the final stereo mix.

Am I (pardon the pun) on track here? My Tyros 4 is not capable of mixing more than two tracks at once, correct?

Tx

I find always easier to explain the difference between Midi and Audio with the analogy of the Player piano.
Midi is what is on The Old Paper Rolls (What makes the piano play Music), with those holes are the "Midi Data" or note information, you may see it(Paper Roll), but do not hear it until the piano player is activated.

The Audio es when you Hear the Music from that Player piano, or when listening to a CD-MP3. piano

You can record up to 16 tracks all at once to the stereo wave.

In fact, with the help of an external DAW, you can record up to 32 tracks in a single recording of stereo wave on the T4.

Thanks Bill,

Another question. If I have 16 tracks recorded, is there some screen that lets me mix down those 16 tracks to two stereo tracks for export? Or do I have to bounce the tracks?

I'm probably not explaining this very well.

Tx for taking your time.
