Out of curiosity...

How many of you use your keyboard workstation to record and make a final mix? (final mix to be used to make an MP3 or CD on separate system)

How many of you use a DAW(dedicated recording system) in addition to your keyboard workstation to record then produce an MP3 or CD?

Whatever you use, what is your workflow?

Tx

I would never record into the KB....

For all my projects I always use

http://www.acoustica.com/mixcraft/download.htm

you can do so much more.

Why not use the keyboard, It makes for a quick recording when you want to capture a take...You can always bring the recording into MixCraft for some treatment..

I record directly from my G70 to a Tascam DR-07...makes a quick recording, and then I use MixCraft if I want to edit it...

Step One:
Sequence a new arrangement into the workstation
--- Currently the Motif ES7 or XF6

Step Two:
Record the final MIDI mix into a digital form. Out of the Keyboard's main L&R output... Thru the Yamaha n12 Digital Mixer... Thru an APHEX Compellor 320 to give punch and to level the audio... Then to one of the recorders...
--- Alesis ML9600 (Masterlink) then burn CD
--- Into my Focusrite Saffire 24DSP
--- Into Presonus Studio One as a WAV
--- Add processing if needed
--- Mixdown to 44.1kHz 16 bit WAV (For my Cakewalk VS100)
--- Second Mixdown to 256 kbps mp3 (for Korg Pa900)
--- play back the file for the gig on VS100 OR Pa900

Now, I have been thinking about switching to the DAW to sequence BUT I love the fact that it is you and the instrument. That instrument has a job it is dedicated to do (not email too.)

Looking forward to the next workstation from Yamaha... Fingers crossed for 2015!

I do all my recording directly into my internal onboard sequencer . I do l my editing there too . Then pass the track to my brother to do the final mix and mastering on his pc and then I might add vocals depending on the project .

Thanks for the comments all. I'm still thinking of trying to do some recording on the Tyros 4 but use vocals on about all songs.
