I heard this oldie played on a local TV/Radio station last week, it got into the cobwebs of my aging brain, and it would not go away. Today, it was too cold to go up to the boat and do some work on it, so I sat down the PSR-3000 (too lazy to get the S-950 out of the van) and the Zoom H2 recorder, slogged through the third-party styles and found one that I downloaded a decade ago, Romantic Ballad. Seemed to fit just fine, so I recorded it for the first time. Thought I would share it with the forum.

Now, the only reason I posted it here is my loving spouse of 52 years said it's among her favorites, and she believes you guys will like it as much as she does. So here it is, mistakes and all.

Could have, Donny. I didn't check it. Getting lazy I guess.

One of my favorites. I'd check the original. There are some major differences between the original lead line and this.

It could be intentional.

Good choice!

Russ, here are the chords I downloaded, transposed of course, to my vocal comfort zone. Unfortunately, the chord changes will not line up properly with the text in this format. And, I've never figured a way to make this work on the Synthzone.

Just a quick note about the song, the original is in 3/4 time - not 4/4, but I liked the way it sounded better using the 4/4 ballad style.

Also, I performed it for the first time in public today - the audience absolutely loved it. Now, most of the audience consisted of old farts, some even older than myself, but about a dozen staffers, mostly 30 somthings, loved it as well, and said it was the first time they ever heard the song. I was amazed - you just never know how a song will be received.

Cheers,

No, not yet, Donny - haven't had time. December is an insane month, as you well know. Though I've cut back a lot, I still have 23 Christmas parties and 2 NYE parties.

Gary, the changes were OK, it is the lead line that is different from the original; in some places way out of the spectrum that would work in that structure.

Good effort! Just listen to the original version of it and compare your first note with the one on the recording.

I've been doing the song for years. The original recording was a duet...Billy Preston, I believe, and a great female singer.

Once I got the right first note, it is a piece of cake.

Syreeta Wright. Here is one rendition of theirs, not the original but nice. I've always loved Billy Preston (great organist and pianist) and Syreeta has been described as one of the most underrated singers from the Motown era. Died in 2004, I believe.
