I thought I'd start a separate thread for this topic.

How difficult is it with a style (from anywhere) that you really like to duplicate it...by hand.....by software.....by conversion, etc?

I've been playing through many generations of Yamaha and Roland arrangers. Years ago, the styles were exciting (to ME anyway). Now it seems like the styles in the new machines are just an afterthought after they've built the keyboard itself.

Just the Roland styles alone from back then are incredibly creative. I still have hundreds and hundreds of them in Roland format. If I can make them into a Korg format, I can see me getting back into playing music.

BTW......I had a good hard think. THAT is the main thing that's causing me NOT to get back into playing.......no inspiration with the new styles. Whatever work I've been doing these last few years has been on the accordion or the piano.

Mark, tons of styles from other keyboards have been converted to Korg format at www.createsongstyles.com
There is a fee to join, but if you want to try it out, you can email the administrator a user name and password and he will let you join, then pay if you decide it's worth the price.
I've been a member for years and it has repaid me many times over.
No charge to go browse either, but you don't have full access.

Don...are they then the exact same "arrangements" as the original....they play the same on the PA3x? Can I get some of my favorite old Roland styles converted there? Do you know how the styles from different keyboards get converted? Software programs?

I'm not sure I understand that......it seems to be a win-win situation!

Don......I just spent some time on that site. There's an awful lot of text in there. I didn't realize there was that much traffic on it.

One question...

Are the styles original....made by players?

Or are they actually "converted" from professional styles that came with other arrangers over the years? I'd really love to have my Roland styles done.

Yes there are lots of converted Roland styles. I even uploaded a few of my favorites and they converted them for me.
Ron is a great guy and he made the offer over on the Korg forum. I sure he would extend it to you, and I know for certain he will if I ask him to. smile

Yes, Don......would you do that for me? I know the group is getting a lot of good buzz about it. In the bigger picture, paying $40 for access to that many alternative styles is not an expense...it's a privilege and a good investment.

I wouldn't take advantage of the offer....maybe download a few PA3x ones that look interesting so I can get an idea. Or maybe he can convert ONE of my Roland styles to Korg?

Mostly I'm interested in getting my Roland styles from 20-30 years ago converted. They're so good that's why I saved them. I'm still playing my Roland E-300 for the styles only.

Can you or someone explain how they're doing the conversion and.....they don't mind doing the conversion for you?

This is the first light I've seen at the end of the tunnel since I realized the "styles" are what's discouraging me from getting back to playing an arranger. I've been out of touch with the "scene." I didn't realize what's been going on around me with these "alternative style" sources.

There's a fellow there "Chello" who does it with software. He has always been ready to help, and posts "new" styles almost daily.
I sent Ron an email and I'm certain he will read this thread when he gets time.

Ron......thank you for the invitation for a "trial period." You're also a "southern gentleman."

I've got a lot on my plate these last few weeks. I'm assuming that's a standing invitation for the near future and I can take you up on that sometime after I've had a chance to explore the site?

I watched Don's Youtube of Stand By Me with one of those styles from CSS .....sounded good to me!

Meantime, I've discovered I've got many hundreds of Korg styles already sitting on my hard drive that I'm going to have to wade through. But, I'm still really interested in getting my Roland styles converted.

So please leave that invitation open for me. It might be just what I need to "wake up" my keyboard!

Mark
