There are test’s done by various bodies and magazines during the year, and as manufactures are continually updating their programs (Not just the definitions) at different times of the year, the No.1 spot is constantly changing, therefore just swapping a program because on 1 report is pointless, (Unless it is really bad) as it will vary over the year.
If you stick with one of the top 3, you should be fine in normal use, however never use 2 of the same type of anti-virus/malware programs together, as in most cases your protection actually reduces rather than improves, due to them interfering with each other.
