I was in Louisville Friday, presenting three guitars to the best students at the guitar club and a 6 string banjo to Angela, the teacher.
I sponsor the club at Kenwick, a school in a rough part of town.
I supply, instruments, strings, tuners, cases, recording equipment...whatever.
At the end of the semester, the best students get their own instrument.
Thanks to Nigel, who put me onto Rhondo, I am paying 1/2 of the price I used to pay for better quality instruments. That makes it possible to expand the program to include twice as many kids.
I gave Angela, a very young "aging hippy", a 6 string SX from Rhondo. Her son will be singing a gospel bluegrass tune in church soon, and hopefully, she will be brave enough to accompany him on the SX.
My goals are simple, If I can get even one kid a semester to realize that the world is a wonderful place full of music, art, graphics, writing...whatever, I'll be a happy old man.
