I played(rather attempted to play) a Yamaha CVP 701 at our local music store. The piano had a very nice action, but from what I could tell, didn't have much more electronics built into it than a DGX 650 that I also played at roughly 1/6 the cost of the CVP.

The screen on the CVP was tiny.

Playing the CVP was, for me, a bit like playing the DGX 650 in a real nice wooden case..??

I'm probably not the best to evaluate as I really don't know pianos...but still.

The CVP 701 can be compared soundwise with the Yamaha PSR-S950 with the piano and epiano sounds of the CP4 topmodel added and a very fine keybed..

The DGX 650 can be compared with a Yamaha PSR-E series with some 10 year old piano samples and a low quallity keybed build in..

You cant compare this high quallity instrument with the DGX650

Can't speak for the CVP 701, I did see and hear live Peter Bartmaans play the CVP 709 and it's a fantastic instrument. I have a CVP 307 at home, I once owned a DGX650 and there's no comparison the CVP307 is many miles ahead of the DGX650 including a graded hammer action, that's in the CVP307

And i think the 701 is about a decade more advanced then the 307, tough they might actually have the same GH3 keybed...

Good points. I'm wondering if there's any type of portable piano that comes close to the quality of the CVP series...with built in styles?

Maybe the Korg Havian 30 would suit you?
