As I know that several Forum members have both the KN7000 and KN2600 I am hoping that you will be able to give me some advice. Some time ago I suggested that our Church might like to look at getting a keyboard, but several older (and influential) members were not too keen. However, this morning I played my KN7000 at our Good Friday service and some of the men who were previously completely against the idea, told me how good they thought it sounded, and maybe we should look at buying a keyboard again. I used the grand piano for the singing group, chapel organ for musical interludes and full organ for the singing. As the KN2600 is still available here, I told them that I would ask the Forum members for their advice. Would someone who has both keyboards please be kind enough to tell me how these sounds compare on the KN2600. We do have an amplifier that the keyboard could be plugged in to if necessary but today I just played the keyboard on its own. Thank you in advance for your help.

My opinion; The Kn7000 is a far better keyboard -- if You can find one. The KN7 is twice the keybopard as the KN2600, also twice the price.

IMHO, John C.

Hi Ann,

I don't have a full listing of sounds available on the KN2600 keyboard but I believe the 3 voices you mentioned are probably on it and if so should sound fairly similar to the 7000 particularly when fed through a decent amplifier and speaker system. The 2600 amplifier and speakers are not as good as the 7000 but for both keyboards, organ sounds in particular are greatly improved by a decent external system. As far as I can recall the the 2600 does not have the organ tabs facility of the 7000. It also doesn't have aftertouch on the keyboard (not normally relevant to organ sounds). It only has 64 note polyphony against 128 for the 7000. The limitation of 64 notes quickly becomes apparent when layering organ sounds. I don't know how the range of preset organs compares but when you combine and edit organ sounds on the 7000, the scope is truly amazing (I have done quite a bit of experimenting with this).
Overall for organ sounds the 7000 is a much better keyboard but the 2600 may well be perfectly adequate for your church requirements and is considerably cheaper and lighter.

Cheers
Len C.

Ann,

I have both and Len C's reply sounds right to me. The 2600 definately needs amplification for your purpose. If the collection plate is big enough, I would go to the 7000.

Hi Ann,

I agree with Fran that the 2600 would need amplification. I have a PR54 which is pretty much the same voicing as the 2600 but the 80 watt amp in it makes it sound so much better.

For a church if you don't need the SD card a PR54 Piano might even be something to consider although a KN7000 is still a better instrument and would be about the same price.

Ann,

I just finished listening to some mp3 organ music by fellow forum member Fred Wren played on the 7000. Impressive. You may want to contact him for a sample so your fellow church members can hear the sound.

He also has a great tool for managing the SD card.

best of luck,

Fran in Florida

Hello Ann,

For 23 years I have also played in Church, first on a pipe organ, later on a cheap Hammond and then untill last Sunday on a KN5000. On http://fred.kn7000.net you can see me playing in church
Last Sunday I had a special "goodbye moment, because I decided for a sabattical period. I have been too busy at work, developing, testing and marketing our tool (http://kn-sdexplorer.has.it) so I decided to take some more private time for re-animate my KN7000. I have played not too much on it. Still don't know all about it. So I seek new inspirational time. I like to create at least one own song for church and maybe for submitting to be added into a songbook. Who knows. I like to hear more about your role/experience in church with music/keyboard playing. I like to share more info about our situation outside the forume by email if you like. Just send me an email: mailto:fred@kn7000.net

Sincerely, Fred

Hi Ann,
I have just seen your post and I am sending
Strangers In Paradise as a zip file,
which if you down load it to your s d card you can load it into your
kn7000 keyboard and it will set the organ sounds up for you.
Let me know how you get on.
Best wishes.

Hi Fran,
Thank you for your kind words,
I wish I had the ability to help members,
as much as you have in the past.

Thank you all for the replies above and also the emails sent to me personally. Your advice is very much appreciated. I haven't managed to convince everyone yet, but will keep working at it!
