With the new additional feature on the S970 the New Vocoder added did it better VH2,..or is it a totally new vocal harmonizer now?

I can't tell any difference, except maybe in the effects. It is certainly usable.

I’m much aware that this is a dumb question, but what does the vocoder feature provide for live vocals? What does it do? What might be an example of its use? How is it different from the other options in the VH2 section? I’ve never really understood what the vocoder option means, or how it’s used in live settings.

I have not used the one on S970, but basically, your voice is reproduced exactly on key with notes pressed, regardless of whether you sing that note. You essentially "play" your own voice. It analyses and synthesizes the input voice. Can sound natural or robotic. I'm certain there are people here who know far more than me and can explain it better.
