GREAT LIST, John. Something has happened in the last few years that has changed the music business and how I participate. I hear kids on the street complaining about how they are having a hard time finding a $75.00 a night job sitting on a stool somewhere playing Buffet music or the like.
The reality is, nearly everything on the internet, all radio and television have AUDIO. Granted, some backing audio is sound effects, and music is in a form other than something with a head, bridge and tail.
UTube productions have replaced many printed annual reports, press releases, etc. The work is everywhere, and it pays; generally $100.00 per hour or more.
The difference is, there is no audience, there are lots of tempo changes, unless it is a simple low budget "flow thru", where you simply take a track and lay it underneath, it has to be done last minute, along with final image editing, there are generally lots of critics (business managers, advertising agency dummies, a producer, etc,) all fighting just before a "set in stone" deadline...all involving a project which requires you to stay at it for 20-30 hours with just bathroom breaks.
It's rough but profitable work and there is lots of it.
Since I'm not much of an entertainer, I LIKE IT!
Music equipment, techniques, content and final product is evolving, but the business is stronger and more exciting than ever.
I'm glad that, in my early 70's, I'm still part of it!
Be well, all,
Russ
