many things happen on stage during a big performance alot of times out of the control of the players on stage, usually the sound techs & stage hands will figure out the problems,.....but the show must go on no biggie,...that said Eddie VH is still one the the best rock guitarists in the world..

It's a pure bullshit, especially on a show of this magnitude. And bullshit was the nicest word I could think of.

I don't think Donny was condoning the lack of a real keyboardist just saying that technical stuff like that is handled by the sound guys. Some acts who rely on a lot of special pre-recorded effects have everything backed up for just this scenario.
It sucks but its happeneing more and more. Big fights with musician Unions over replacing live musicians in theatre productions.
Van Halen certainly should of hired a real keyboardist. He could of gotten any 14 year old kid he found in a Guitar Center playing Jump on the newest synth.

you get what you pay for.... however theres a clip where they played on ellen with no keyboard player and a lot better result. i think it was the way the video was recorded. shame they don't use live keyboardist anymore , i guess its the sign of the times. kinda glad im out of the business but glad i was a part of the time when live music was real with live players mistakes and all. now i know how the big band players felt when they were being fazed out by the rock n roll bands of the 50's and 60's. the beat goes on..............same and yet different

I will have to play Jump solo on a church organ on a wedding in June. Still have to see how I can play the melody of the vocals and the synth theme simultaneously and the beat with the pedal bass...
