I love the 945. It does sound different that 835, different-better! Very low handling noise, and I run it flat without e.q. (except for overall system e.q.) most of the time. It's my number one mic.
I also have EV 767, Samson Q7, Q8 and 4 R11s, Shure SM35 headset, 2 EV PL76 phantom powered, Blue Encore 100, 2 Behringer 8500s.
If I had to rank them, the Q8 would be next, then Blue. The Blue has some handling noise. The phantom powered EVs are great, except maybe too sensitive. The R11s and 8500s I keep for when I have guest singers or need multiple mics for some rare occasion. I have given several away to people who needed a mic and couldn't justify buying a new one. Since I got the Q8, the Q7 is now my primary guest mic. All the cheaper mics have handling noise.
I gave away a Shure SM58 for extreme handling noise (I think it was the particular one I had, because previous 58s I've had weren't that bad.)
Also, the cheaper the mic, the more e.q. is necessary to make it sound good. They all can be made to sound good with enough processing. I have a close friend who was a nationally known recording artist back in the 60's. He loves the Samson R11. It just suits his voice really well. I gave him two of them. Heck you can buy 'em in packages 3 for $45.!! They even have good switches. You HAVE to roll off the bass. Extreme proximity effect. But I digress as usual. You can't go wrong with Sennheiser!
