Does anybody use a Windows Karaoke player to play cdg or kar files? If so, which program do you use?

Thanks,
Chris

For some reason I downloaded one called Karafun a few years ago. It seemed to work fine although I only experimented with it very briefly on behalf of one of my kids.
Incidentally, the Korg PA4X reads and plays CDG files. Seems to work great. I was helping a friend set his up and he gave me a few files.

Thanks, Don. I installed Karafun. It seems to work fine. I also tried out Canto Player. It does have have the Always On Top function.

Or if you want a professional CDG/MP3 program, get Power Karaoke's Siglos. There is the individual or KJ version for running a whole show. I have used it for years and they are top rated.

Thank you. Siglos seems to be a good choice if one deals with CDG a lot, but Karafun would be fine for my light use of Karaoke files.

Gary, that's not the same. VanBasco plays "midi-karaoke". We're talking about digitally recorded wav type files, in CDG format. Many have recorded background and/or harmony voices. Real humans singing.
I don't use them. I figure if someone wants to hear something that close to the original, they would be better off hearing the original artists do it!

If I recall, they will also play .kar files as well, but I don't use them, so I really don't know for sure.

And, I agree, if someone wants to hear the original artist, then they came to the wrong place. I kinda thought they came to hear me when I played the nite club/restaurant circuit. wink

Gary cool

I sing with karaoke files when I perform with the female vocalist ... it's HER gig and HER equipment, and if I don't have to take my gear and set it up, I have become OK with it (it DID take a while for me to get comfortable with that) ... but people are still hearing ME sing ... it's just that sometimes I have Sinatra's arrangement backing me up ... grin
I still prefer using MY kb and MY playing to back me up ...

And OF COURSE, I would PREFER to be playing with the band ... but then, that's me ...
