Didn't know they used the 5.3 GB of streaming tech from Kronos... Good to know! Seems to be a toss-up between the Pa4X and Tyros 5. It should be interesting to see what happens since the music production guys at Yamaha took over the PSR/Tyros line. Montage and the S970 have the new processing chips... The <insert new name of Tyros here> should be a huge jump forward! Korg is pushing them with their jump in tech. Please... Add an easy to use linear sequencer with a bunch of processing, editable tracks, stereo polyphony, mastering fx, the list goes on... A songwriter and arranger's musical friend!!!
A) if the streaming technollogy is in the pa4x, its a shame its not available for the user samples/sounds
B) the processing upgrade from Tyros hardware to psr/montage isnt that huge...its essentially the same old hardware with a little speedupdate and advanced memmory structure... The interesting part of teh Montage sound is their new upgraded D/A conversion and the analogue part of the soundcard hardware...
(Tough there is also a huge step up in DSP) but the montage is only 16 parts multitimbral, from which 8 parts are spare and used for seemless soundswitching.. Which leaves us with an 8 part multitimbral instrument.... Tyros5 is 32 parts...
In the end, Korg Kronos is still miles ahead of anything else where it comes to processing power... However, Korg has to make the step from 32 bit to 64 bit to make a new huge step with their workstation range...which i expect sometime next year...
