One F1 speaker can definitely not be stereo. Either the two inputs are two independent inputs or a left/right channel input, but in both cases the signal is surely converted to mono. I also guess one F1 speaker has a less wide horizontal coverage compared to the L1 systems.

I am sure that it summed to mono. The Spacestation is different architecture entirely

Interesting.

So that would mean that even if both the left and right channels of my keyboard were plugged into the two Bose 812 inputs, only the left channel of the keyboard would be played?

The 2nd channel would be muted?

Actually I shouldn't have used the word muted in the previous post....I understand summed.

Thing is it's still going to be a larger sound than just the Left/Right out of my keyboard into a single Bose Compact input.

The stereo thing is confusing as I only hear that from my keyboard when using headphones. I rarely hear that when using two Bose Compacts unless there is a great separation of the two speakers...and then I question whether anyone else can hear the separation.

The F1 812 might just provide that bigger sound.

Just my .02 but I think the Bose is overkill for what you are doing. Both in power and price. I think its aimed more at bands who need a powerful PA and would use the matching subs. And can lay out over 4K for a complete system.
It's"warmer" because it has a 12" woofer compared tot he 8" in the Compact. And the power is 5X.
For my smaller setups I use 1 JBL 515xt ( discontinued but the new model is the 610 ) 600 watts with a 15" woofer and HF horn with seperate amps. Even one is more power than I ever need but its only 32 lbs. and has a 3 channel mixer on the back. And I don't know why but I do think it sounds better if I run both outputs of my BK9 into two channels of the speaker.
Theres lots of stuff out there so look around.

Don't overlook the Maui line. Frank has them! They are at least as good as Bose, and about half the price. I've used the 5's for a few weeks now and I'm very pleased with them.

As Don and others have said, it's great to have options.

Today I spent about two hours on my phone visiting with both Bose folks and some of the folks at Sweetwater.

First of all, the F1 Model 812 is set up somewhat like the Compact in that the left channel has a mic preamp very similar to my Compacts. The left channel will also work as a line input so that a left/right channel can be accomplished.

Everyone I talked to cautioned that the F1 812 has the potential for a lot more horsepower than the L1 series. But I was also told by about everyone that they also work very well at lower volumes.

Also I was informed that the F1 Model 12 would work behind us as does the Compacts but to be careful at higher volumes for feedback from 'cheaper' mic's.

So, I ordered one today...got time to try it out and send it back if it doesn't work.

Will keep you posted.
