Believe it or not, I've found that the bigger the bait, the bigger the fish I catch. smile

Never used a tip jar...it's just not me. Found $5.00 bills (and old cigars...UGH) in my half-drunk glass of rum and coke many times.

NASTY!

Went to a place last night with an outdoor stage. Pretty good band that the owner loved and could only book once a month . He gets on the mic and announces that anyone who puts a five in their bucket gets a free shot.
I guess he really wants them back !

That's a great thing for him to do!
A couple of weeks ago, we had a birthday party of about 10 people. They were having a LARGE time stayed from 7:00 to closing.
The Birthday "girl" came up in the middle of a song and before I could stop her, grabbed my jar and started going around to the tables with it. Not cool, but dang, she was having so much fun than most everybody dug in and contributed. By the end of the night there was more than four h in it. I played the entire four hours with only one break, then another 30 minutes extra. You don't mind working hard if people are appreciating it!

Good for you Don like you said you'll work your butt off if it's appreciated. Had a similar thing this Spring sitting in with a band. Guitar player was on and ego trip and didn't want to do any requests. Finally ath the end of the gig we hit Mustanf Sally which lots of musicians hate but a girl grabbed out tip pitcher and replaced it with a bucket. $$$

I have a regular who is the owner of a soft drink distributorship and a major drunk. for three years, he has been coming in on Wednesday evening, laying a $100.00 bill on my piano and asking me to ply his song. He staggers to a booth. 1/2 hour later, he says," when are you going to play my song?" I say, "Bill, I played it when you first came in". He says, "Thanks buddy", and staggers off.

Been so long, I don';t even remember what the song is.

What the heck does he expect for $15,000.00?(LOL).
