The 970 is more than capable of filling the T4 shoes

Hi,
I have both Keyboards, and was able to mostly convert everything to the S970 and make it sound as good as the T4.
It took me a while to get used to the keybed of the S970, but it is not a problem anymore.
I love the small footprint and weight.
The main differences between the 2 keyboards are:

1. S970 is missing SA2 sounds. The SA sounds are great, but sometimes I would like to have the SA2 sounds...
2. No aftertouch. Not a problem when playing the piano, but I miss it when playing other sounds. You can work around it by using the modulation wheel or put it on a pedal.
3. Much fewer DSP's. That will effect some Midi files and you need to work them up a bit.
I had to rework some of my T4 styles because of less DSP effects. But mostly I found work arounds.....

Overall I love what the S970 offers.
After a bit of tweaking I got it to really rock .... keys

Hope this helps.
Let me know if you have other questions. wink

Eric

I've had both the Tyros 4 and still own the S970. I gigged with both over the past few years.

The Tyros has a great sound and controls for live play. The S970 has a good sound and a much lighter footprint to carry around.

I'm currently gigging with a Korg PA 4X. Has the controls(+) and sound of the Tyros but also has the size and close to the weight of my S970.

If Yamaha ever produces a Tyros similar to my Korg PA 4X, I might switch to that.

Ron, many years ago when I was playing at Dela Note' in Baltimore's little Italy, I had to set up on a tiny piano bar stage in front of a full size, Steinway Grand. I placed my keyboard stand in such a way that it was just above the piano keybed, thus out of sight, out of mind. Worked for me. Of course, I didn't play the piano, and I rarely brought in my 12-string and played to backing tracks.

I actually got fired from that job because I was too entertaining and kept the patrons in the lounge area, eating free snack food and drinking $2 draft beers. The lounge area was intended to just be a waiting area until they could get a seat in the restaurant where the prices were outrageously high.

All the best,

Gary cool

What i like about the T4 is the SA2 sounds, the keybed, and the layout of the buttons...

What the 970 has to offer is lower weight, and personally i think the 2 knobs, with arpeggios and deejay styles really are a step forward for anyone that also needs to play some 2016 dance music..

I agree with you on the pa4x... However, comming from the T5, there are also some things i will miss of the T5 when deciding to go to a pa4x....

I did a thing once, where the grand piano was actually in my way, and didn't sound very good, so I put an X stand right over the keys of the piano and set my synth on top of that. The room saw a piano, and heard my rig. It's insane to think that a club owner or GM can dictate what gear you use, let alone the COLOR! Geeze.

I'm thinking by the sound of it the GM wants a low keypiano lounge effect vs high energy?

I am looking into a couple of things

a skirt I can design to cover up the front and sides of the Tyros black in color and maybe silk screen my Name on it AKA Gary Diamond .

and moving the piano to a different place in the club so it is placed away from the door that is leaking out to lobby where the noise level seem to be a little loud if this happens should solv the issue

unless this GM is just a jack ass then no prob and i go somewhere else and take my following with me

spoke to 3 other managers they all say it no issue with me as all and think this new guy is just messing with stuff that is not broke

so we will see I will do my part funny thing is the GM has never come in to see what I do and all the other managment says what I do is thwe best thing they have had in there for 20 years

go figure

I think it will find a way to work it way out , I know if I leave the GM will get many complaints

I think it will be fine but I have a contract till Jan at this point so we will see.
