I don't do a lot of assisted living gigs. But I've run into long delay times for getting payment for the gig. It's been well over a month since my last performance and I keep getting word that the check is coming, OH! it's in the mail and other excuses for not sending payment. The run around is getting tiresome. It this normal procedure for these assisted living facilities?

It's kinda normal in this world. They hang on to your money as long as they can so they can make as much with it as possible before having to turn it over to you. My average wait time with all 52 accounts I had was 30 days, however, some were as long as 90 days. Fortunately, I was working 5 to 7 days a week, so after a while the check flow was almost daily. If you don't see the check within two more weeks, send them an overdue notice. On the contract all of my accounts signed, and on the invoice, it says payment due upon receipt in bold print - not that it made any difference to them.

Good luck,

Gary cool

A month is nothing at NH's,......most of these facilities work on 30/45/90 day pay cycles, few pay day of gig,.. and even then you have to track them down for payment, depending when the AD submitted vouchers,... it's all par for the course in this game,..good luck.

I deal mostly with assisted living and nursing homes.

About half pay the day of the performance and about half take up to two weeks to a month to pay. The bigger the organization, the longer it takes to get paid.

In any event, I do get paid.

I left Gary's "cool"sign in there, because.......this is the key. Think of it this way. You're working THIS week and collecting checks from last month. It's like you're getting paid for today's gig but from another job you did 30 days ago.

Anyhow, I set up a database of gigs to keep track of everything. I then set up a "filter" on the database so that when I click on the filter it brings up all events that I've not been paid on yet. If one is a month old, then I go the the "accounts payable" box for that location. i.e When I book a job, I also make note of the "accounts payable" department. I don't bother with "2nd invoices" or calling the AD. I just go right to "accounts payable" give them a BS story like "I didn't get a check......I'm not concerned about how long it takes to issue it.....I'm just wondering if you sent it and it got lost in the mail? It keeps everybody honest!

Generally, "for profit" nursing homes and assisted living operations are "extremely slow" when it comes to paying. As a member of a restaurant association, I hear the same things from food vendors and other service organizations. Many " For profits" are COD only.

Pretty sad.

I have one venue that issues checks on the 22nd of the month following the gig ... all others pay within two weeks ...
For the gigs I work with the female vocalist (they are 'her' gigs), we get paid the day of the gig ... I'll have to ask her how she made that arrangement ...
