Rikki,
What would cause my "direct" icon to be grayed out? When I push the "direct" hard button, I get the choice of Factory or User, but the third block {direct} is inaccessible.

what R U trying to audition....
styles or sounds?..files have to be in .set format...works perfectly here....then after auditioning from USB just copy paste and assign to any open slot in user so easy love it!

Hi Dave,
you've been missing out on a lot of fun if you actually haven ' t been accessing direct play.

Make sure you have a USB stick plugged in , or direct will show up as light grey.
Once you've got the stick plugged in, mine is plugged in the front, though doubt that matters, those nano's Donny mentioned are great, can't accidently knock them.

Anyway make sure USB stick is plugged in, your direct icon should now be yellow when you touch it.

The banks will be blank.

Top r/h corner, drop down
Direct Preferences

Select your .set folder ( has to be .set folder)

Press select, and your styles in that folder will show up.

In the case of my old korg styles if I was looking for pop styles , I 'd find them in favourite 1. My rock I saved in favourite 5, so that's where they'd show up.
I saved them that way for a reason. They're only data base styles, I don't necessarily use them, they're there if I'm looking for something.

Styles that I would use regularly , I'd slowly fill up all the favourites slots in direct play . ( basically direct access to your USB stick , do be carefull and keep USB stick backed up, you change something, it's changed forever)

I don't know how the direct play styles work with the songbook, haven't gotten round to that, for me not a priority because I don't perform, but I'm GUESSING be the same as user style slots or why have it?
IF!, it does , maybe you could have your styles and songbook set up on a USB stick.
Different setups for different venues, don 't know how that all works, I can only dream about how I'd do it . Haha

Anyway back to Direct access,
You can copy and paste styles, delete them rename them etc etc even edit, all directly to your USB stick. That's why be careful, as I mentioned I thought I had hi lighted a single style to delete, somehow , (and it wasn't thru the dropdown menu,) I highlighted the whole bank , pressed delete and they all started to dissapear. Eek!,

Rikki once you copy paste from direct access to a user slot you can assign them to a song setup and songbook like all the rest works flawlessly...

Thanks Donny,
I would have assumed that was the case, thank you for confirming.
Handy to know once I get that elusive songbook of mine setup.
It will have only taken me 8 years. Haha
Determined this time round.

USB installed - style sets loaded on it - GRAY "direct" icon when I go to the Direct button. Never get a chance to audition anything - nothing shows up. They are on the disk - I can see them when I go to media section, but no direct access. Ideas?

Hi Dave,
Do you mean it doesn't recognise your USB stick at all, that light wishy washy grey.

Or do you mean all the direct favourites and user banks are empty all blank red boxes.

Make sure your styles on USB are actually in favourites banks 1 to 10 and user 1 to 3 and saved as sets.

I had some styles from my pa3x saved in banks 11 and 12. The pa4 x couldn't them.

You can check that in media load as to which banks they 're saved in.

Maybe try saving a couple of the factory styles as a set to the USB stick and see if they show up.

Maybe try a different USB stick.

Rikki,
The USB works fine, but I do not have specific locations saved. Maybe I don't get the concept of the direct access ... I thought the kb would search my drive, and "see" the styles. My User and Favorites banks are only available after I load them, right? They exist in the keyboard, and not on the disk.

I have styles loaded in Favorites and User, and they are all available with the buttons. When I try to select the third icon (direct" ... it's grayed out.

This statement confuses me:
"Make sure your styles on USB are actually in favourites banks 1 to 10 and user 1 to 3 and saved as sets."

My USB drive is not sectioned into Favorites ... it's just alphabetical.

dave the styles have to be ion .SET folders

after you load the USB stick MAKE SURE YOU
Top r/h corner, drop down
Direct Preferences

then you will see the styles

audition them and then you can use the drop down again to copy/paste and assign to user slots works great.

Hi Dave
Ignore the rest for time bring this is statement concerns me about being greyed out.

Remove your USB stick .
Turn on PA4x
Press User Direct button.
Factory ( dark grey with yellow writing ) touch it it turns yellow.
User (dark grey with yellow writing ) touch it it turns yellow.
Direct ( very light grey) like it doesn't exist.

Switch off

Plug in USB

Turn on Pa4x
User Direct button.
Factory ( dark grey with yellow writing ) touch it it turns yellow.
User (dark grey with yellow writing ) touch it it turns yellow.
Direct ( dark grey with yellow writing) touch it it turns yellow.
You should see blank red squares.

Dave if your direct play screen is identical with, or without USB plugged in ,
please humour me, TRY a DIFFERENT USB stick.
I just found one of mine that won't work with direct play either
I can Load styles into my pa4x from this stick ,
so stick works ok for loading and saving,
BUT it WON'T WORK with DIRECT PLAY.

Fingers crossed
