I said I found one of USB sticks that didn't work with direct play mode.
I was wrong.
I found 8 out of the 10 USB sticks I have don 't function with direct play mode.

6 are relatively old 3 years and older majority under 8 gigs.

2 are brand new Sandisk 128 gig ( for my laptop)


The only 2 that appear to work ok are my
nano type 16 gig sandisk which I bought recently for my korg.
A sandisk cruzer switch 8 gig I bought for my pa3x.


All the above USB sticks will load and save files in the pa4x
But the pa4x doesn't appear to recognise them for direct play.

How Bizzare.

Might mention it over on the forums.

Does the USB have to be formatted in the pa4x first?

tried that with a couple of them, no difference,
Still greyed out.
Just happened to plug in one of the older sticks, and I think maybe that's what's happening to Dave.
The fact that you can save and load would make you think they're OK .
Decided to round up what I had , none of them worked The korg doesn't appear to recognise them for direct play ?

The one that surprised me was the 2 new 128 gigs I use in the laptop. I have the same in 16 gigs, works perfectly.

I'd be slightly concerned if none of them worked ie that I had a problem, but 2 work perfectly. Maybe the 128 gigs are too large?? They 're. not for th korg anyway.
And the others too old, even though they still work.
Plot thickens.

Is there a limit size for USB direct access?

Apparently not according to Antony over on the korg forums. I asked over there.
He's had no problems with any of his, all sizes up to 128 gig. Pete seemed to think it may have been brought up before.

A couple of the smaller sticks I tried formatting on pa 4x, but I can't afford to do that with the 128 gigs. I run my biab audio files and sample tank files off them, don 't want something going wrong.

Curiouser, and curiouser ...

I had some problems initially on either the Pa600 or Pa900 with some USB sticks ... with the help from KORG USA tech support we narrowed it down to the fact that there were types of files other than KORG files on the stick ... I eliminated the non KORG files and the problem was resolved ...

Thank you, but not in this instance.
Maybe in my case, it's because they're fairly old.
I formatted a couple of them and only added korg style sets.
Still doesn't recognise them.
You'd think if there was a problem, the media function wouldn't load and save styles either.

weird afternoon.

I've thrown 3 of my old usb's away. Formatted in pa4x. Think they were just way too old and not working with direct play.

After plugging and unplugging them my icon was greyed out even when I plugged my good USB in. Thought I'd damaged it.

Accidently tapped the drop down menu

Feel like a total IDIOT.

I assumed direct play was only for USB stick. The hard drive showed up with a set. Folder I had just saved. It works with direct play too.

Turns out even though my icon was totally greyed out , (whereas before I started to mess around it had always been dark grey when USB was plugged in.)

3 of the old USB were actually functioning .

I think there may still be a bit of a bug as 1 minute that direct play icon is greyed out, then it shows up again after I switch off. Either way whether hi lighted or greyed out , the usb's are accessible .

Do what Donny suggested
Hopefully you can access dropdown


Right top hand corner drop down
Click direct preferences
Down left hand bottom if you tap icon
Disk Korg Disk ( that's your hard drive if you want to store your set folders there)
USB front or back should come up if your USB is actually functioning

Choose your folder and press select and hopefully they show up in direct play.
