Hi Donny,
I can't comment on songbook functions, but as far as I'm aware ( unless something has changed in pa4x) an sts is assigned to a particular variation ie
Sts1 vari 1. Sts 2 vari 2. May not be the case for songbook.

Don't know if it will make any difference but maybe the

Style to keyboard set button might be doing something that you don' t want.

There are 3 settings. Off, on ( solid red) and flashing. All 3 have different purposes in style play mode.

Maybe try changing the setting.

I don't see a way to do exactly what you want. I guess it isn't designed that way. Korg is good about listening to suggestions for improvements if you post on the Korg Forum.
You CAN save the sound you want to load in Songbook, under Keyset position 1, and it will automatically load when you call up the SB entry. I usually change most or all of the Keyset sounds when I save a SB entry anyway.
I also have eleven of my favorite sounds saved in the Keyset Banks, on the lower right side of the keyboard. If you go to Global, Interface and check the Keyset to automatically load, then whenever you press a Bank button the set in position one, or the last set loaded from that bank, will instantly load. Just because the bank says Ethnic or whatever, doesn't mean you can't save any sound you want there. You can also save Keysets in the User Bank.
Hope this helps.

You don't need the song to load ANY STS sound if you assign it that way. I have 4 "go to" sounds in my STS banks that are the same for all my user styles, add that to the "My SOUND" tone, and that gives me 5 choices for any style I pick. If you don't have the STS set to change with style selection, the songbook should set up what ever sound set is called up.
My sound bank is like this:
My Sound: acoustic piano
STS1: Rhodes (add steel drums on Upper 2, strings on 3)
STS2: Whurlie (add vibes on 2, strings on 3)
STS3: Organ (add cheesier organs with 2&3) - velocity leslie trigger F/S
STS4: Sax section (uses Upper 1&2 - add 3 for brass section)

With these 5 sounds, I can get through 95% of my stuff that isn't song specific.

Hi Guys
decided to try and set up a song.
Still not sure how the sounds work with this new setup, but I'm used to using sts's that change automatically each time I go to a new variation.
Trying to get this to also work in songbook mode.

I have my user style set up for the following Sts.
Also works in songbook provided I am happy to use the instruments assigned to to each variation. They change when I go from v1 to v3 whatever.
1 piano
2. Guitar
3. Strings
4. Orchestral Strings.

The problem was if I wanted to use strings on vari 2 instead of guitar.
If I physically changed it, it actually overwrote the settings in my actual style. No good.

Don't know if there's another way of doing it , as unfortunately I lost one of my sts's for this song . May be my only compromise.

Basically I did the following

Write Current keyboard set, I changed it from All to little icon below
I pushe style style button vari 3 because that was my string sts

Then I set To 2 (meant it copied the strings sts to var 2)

Then I clicked intro and vari 2 button wrote it to the song book.

Unfortunately I no longer have the guitar sts, but my song does start with intro and variation 2.

It has not affected the original style the original sts are still in place.
Basically I can do the above with as many songs as I like provided I use the same 4 sts, but I can move them around as per above.

I also have the style to Kbd button set to flashing do that the sts changed automatically withe the variation changes.

THats ok everyone & I appreciate the help, what I am asking obviously cannot be done on a Pa4x at this time which leaves me having to remember to just push the STS button for the sound I want to start the song with that isn't the #1 STS,.....
just another workaround I can live with.
lets see if KORG responds in the next OS Update.
That said I LOVE THE PA4x

Donny, don't give up. I'm not sure we exactly understand what you're trying to do.

First up, you want to save song with sts 3, BUT , which variation are you trying to save for the song. Sts's and variations are linked. Are you trying to save sts3 with vari 1 or vari 3?
Makes a difference.

I think this is where some of us may be confused.

I know I confuse people, must be the Aussie accent. Haha

P.s.

You've actually got me working on my song book now. Had no idea how good this function is.

I shouldn't try to speak for Donny, but knowing what I know of him, I THINK that when he is using a style he likes the progression from Var 1 to Var 2, 3 and 4 ... HOWEVER, while he may want to start with Var 1, he wants to use the voice settings of STS2 ... which apparently the KB will not let him do ...

If my GUESS is incorrect, I apologize ...

Tony what's the difference..... You should be able to set whatever starting STS you save with everything else in the style STS, intro 1,2,3, etc etc...
