Hi I tried it back on my pa800, but the sample memory was so limited , couldn't fit much. I did a couple of jazz brush swishes. Idea was something along the lines of what Ketron does. 2 drum kits . One as a background ( audio) One midi, to give variety. So basically my idea was to have audio brush swish as background ( sounded so much better and the midi ones) Then use the midi drums for bass, snare etc for rhythm. Worked as pads too. I didn't want to be constantly loading and unloading samples, idea was to just do a few core ones. I did try it with a couple of drum loops too, Fun part was using , when using the cut drum loop in style or pad, , instead of using the midi notes in the order they were assigned, you could actually mix them up and come up with a new pattern.
Must have a look back thru my biab real drums, and see if there are any suitable loops. Probabably the pa4x functions are far better than on the pa800. More sample memory might be worth taking another look at.

Oh, and Markus, i dont think our Tyros 5 has this feature... On board the Tyros 5 there isn't a specific Time Slice feature, but same result can be made through software and imported through the Yamaha Expansion Manager. Yes, I explored this method of creating a drum kit or rhythm loop through slicing a sample into the individual instrument samples years ago. Many similar MultiAdLib UVNs and UVDs were created on the Tyros 3 and Tyros 4. Korg did a nice job incorporating Time Slicing into the PA3X and carried over to the PA4X. Pascal's Sound Forge had hundreds of these MultiAdLib files made by members. Still fairly tedious work. Still something I would prefer to do with software. I've made many Tyros 5 Audio MultiPad through similar software. Much easier to blow up the visual wave form of the sample and fix the attack and releases of the individual samples or audio segments (as in the case of Audio Multipad creation). You would have to be fairly precise with the PA4X Time Slicing. Here is a quote from a similar thread post in the subject of time slicing and the Tyros 5. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=56jh7e3bd7U&feature=youtu.be"" Hi everyone. In the following video you have explanation how you can create your own AUdio styles. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=56jh7e3bd7U&feature=youtu.be cheers Marco"
Thanks Marco for the video link. One of the more interesting tutorial videos I have seen for a while. Not in English, but can following and understand the workflow.
Not actually creating your own audio styles as in the Tyros 5 audio style format, but a pretty close approximation to qualities of an audio style. Beat slicing isn't new and is built into the higher end Korg arrangers, but a concept originally used for the Tyros 4 & 5 through MultiADLib UVN and DVN format files.
In the video tutorial a live drum session wave file is sliced into the various style drum parts in a final Soundfont format. I have used Extreme Sample Converter in the past, but as in the video you are limited to the Tyros 2 TVN format, and used to create the wave mapping in the recycled sequence.
The author of the tutorial uses Cubase to create a midi file of his whole song arrangement and recycled drum parts. He has them mapped out in his midi file by the conventional style parts - mains - fills etc. He speaks of a CASM editor, while I assume he will create his Tyros Audio style from the Cubase midi file.
Lots of work and a fairly tedious workflow, but realistic drum parts can be created this way without the use of the Tyros 5 Audio Style time stretch technology. If the REX files can be used and compatible with the latest YEM update, then the most of the work is done for you, providing you find files that will work for you.
Personally, for the amount of use I would find for these customized audio drum parts, I would sooner just use good quality drum kits or the Tyros 5 Real Drum kits. There must be a second part of the video where the actual custom audio style is created through a CASM editor."[/color]Marcus

The sampler isn't just for drum loops you can do so much more with it if you use your imagination to add to your music ! Hi. Donny, I beleive the pa4x also loads soundfonts , which sounds very interesting. Have a heap of them from my old One Man Band soft synth arranger days. Hoping I kept them. I did a couple of sounds on my pa800, but they used wav files, plus I created an sd2 drum kit to go with one of my sd1 style conversions. Worked quite well. I have tried sampling, even had some sort of software that did it automatically, but you could spend so much time on it, not enough hours in the day. Haha For my pa4x , I may just try and find or redo my brush swishes, Do some more sd live drum kits if I decide to try and convert some more Ketron styles, Just for the heck of it, might see how well a soundfont works.. Really only worthwhile if I can't find an onboard sound to suit my needs. My curiosity may get the better of me. Haha My pa800 user styles, I always shared over at the Korg forum, so I tended to stay away from anything to do with someone having to load samples and sounds. It could have interfered with their own , if they had samples loaded. Certainly is amazing what can be done on the korgs.

But isnt the strength of the PA4x in this example that it can be done onboard, practically by pushing a single button? Which makes it very convenient and fast to do so? Where for us on the Tyros (this particulary example) take 3rd party software and much more time? I am still quite happy with my Tyros5, dont get me wrong. And yes, we can do almost anything on our Tyros5. But it what i typically like about Korg is some of these advanced functions that yield fast and high end results and the fact that i can do high end edditting witouth 3rd part applications on a PC but with onboard tools. I dont think either of these keyboards is a bad choice.. Some things work better on Tyros 5, other things on PA4x. And offcourse there is allways the grass is allways greener at the neighbours syndrome. By next year we will have a Tyros replacement, and my best bet is that Yamaha will be firmly ahead of Korg again. But currently Korg might have their nose slightly ahead of the T5. Which however doesnt make the Tyros5 any worse then it was before. And for me not a reason to jump ships, even tough i was doubting a few weeks ago, i am still quite happy with my T5/Kronos setup. But i also agree with these PA4x owners that Korg set quite some new benchmarks with their PA4x.
