It's a fairly straightforward process to get into the Control Panel of the KN7000... I've just replaced the START/STOP switches on both my KN7000s. I was really impressed with the internal build quality.....

My apologies for not answering sooner.
The screen has deteriorated further, now being un-readable.

While considering the age of the KN, & the use we have had out of it, we decided to purchase a new keyboard.

We now own a Yamaha PSR S-950. As we regularly use both keyboards (Tyros 4 & PSR) for the dances we run, we need the consistant reliability of the instruments.

As well the PSR will be able to be used as a back-up keyboard should the Tyros fail on a night. Having similar operating systems & filing, it should make life easier should the need ever arise.

We use the Tyros as our main keyboard, while the PSR is used as a harmony keyboard only.

Allen this is the first time I have read your post. I am a bit shy to add something so simple, but is it possible to use a monitor screen to see what your Kn7 is doing. When I had mine I connected the Kn7 to my TV and it mirrored what was on the Kn7.

I did try this with mixed results.
While the KN screen showed up with all of the information, a lot of the smaller information was un-readable & not clearly defined. I tried it with a number of TV's.
I also tried connecting the KN to a portable DVD player & came up with similar results. I also tried a number of DVD players.

After much research I thought I’d share this information. The LCD screen in the Technics KN7000 is made by Sharp and is available from many different sources. Google the part number, Sharp LM8M64. Theses screens are readily available.

Update…I got the new screen and replaced the old one. Took about 20 minutes. Remove the back cover on the control board. Then remove two screws holding the screen case in place. Up plugged the screen power and released the ribbon to the screen. Then removed the two additional screws holding the screen in the case. Replaced the screen and everything is reverse. Plug the power back. Place the ribbon on the new screen and assemble everything bask. Not to difficult.
