Is this the norm or the exception for how music is played in Europe.....and how audiences react?

I'll bet playing in a situation like this would revitalize Donny DNJ. I know it does for me!

My wife and I travel to Europe at least once a year and have seen a lot of this type entertainment. The street bands are a real blast to watch. Most are very talented musicians that supplement their income playing on the street. The audiences are very active and get into the music and moment.

No Dave, you can clap anyway you feel the music as long as it is in in time.

But the music was not back beat oriented music. When I see audiences clapping along to salsa and other Latin music they always clap on one and three or they clap the clave. YMMV

I don't care when they clap as long as they don't BOO.

Thanks for responding, Deane. I've often wondered if anything changed over there. It appears there's still "feel good....be happy...dance wherever you feel like dancing" music being played somewhere. I wish I could go back to playing that way, but....easier said than done!



I go with this one....Dave, your answer is politically correct but not practically correct! I notice that about myself. In any given song with a beat I'll be tapping my fingers and stomping my feet in all different ways depending on what part of the song I'm in. Of course.......in time!

My experience is that forcing the average audience to clap at 2 and 4 will fail.

Trained listeners can do 2 and 4 clapping - and they feel as part of the rhythm group.

The average audience claps according to the rhythm they feel. So to speak their own rhythm group.

Listening to music is not an intellectual excersise; but an emotional execsise.
