Thank you Al Jarreau for the musical magic you provided over your lifetime. It was only a couple of years ago I bought your album dedicated to the amazing keyboard player George Duke. Now you can play together once again.

When I was in Corporate America, I traveled to Cedar Rapids on a regular basis. The first thing I do is check for jazz. I was told to go to a small hotel/club, where, you guessed it, I ran into Al. He had sung with the owner/drummer. Al was finishing up a graduate program, and sang in a downtown club to support himself. There were no people there (it was 15 below zero), but there was a B-3. We played for over an hour. This was before "We're In This Love Together". I've done that tune every night I've played since it came out.

He suffered many illnesses (Back, heart, etc.) in his lifetime.

He contributed to the wonderful world of pop music. Years later, I saw him in Chicago. He came off the bandstand to talk for a few minutes.

I'm privileged to have had him positively impact my life.

Back in 1999 I went to a restaurant in Los Angeles to see a favorite jazz keyboard player Freddie Ravel and his band play right in front of our dinner table. Halfway through the set he stopped and wished a friend of his who was eating at the restaurant a very happy birthday. He then invited him to come up and sing a couple of songs. Al Jarreau then walked up and performed amazingly. During the set break I walked outside for some air and passed Al in the hallway. I told him how thrilled I was to hear his impromptu performance. He just smiled at me and said "Singing on my birthday".
