Revisit the Edirol M-10DX digital mixer..
Still... my favorite compact mixer ... ever.
What I have found.....most, not just many.... of my musician friends
fear the thought of "digital"... thus they think they never be able to
understand it..
They miss the boat big time..
The M-10dx is a problem solver..
In my previous post, I praised the RAC (room acoustic control)..it amazingly
brought out frequencies that many leading sound systems lacked (Bose)..
It worked so well, my friends that owned the Compact and the Edirol...can not
be without the mixer..each of them have back ups to assure them..
the mixers are getting hard to find..
We tend to overlook features and never try them...I am including myself..
Here is a couple examples...
First off...digital mixers are superior to analog mixers..
They can do things analog can not do..
I was aware that the 3 band eq on the M-10dx was a great feature,
but I failed to use it's extended features.
I judged the adjustable midrange to be as a sweepable mid on analog mixers..
Plain dumb.
The Q and frequency controls are super...
You can select and adjust range and even a single frequency...
not only for mids,
but lows and highs too..you can even overlap zones..
This allows detail you would not believe..
When I finally used this feature.. it was jaw dropping.
As many know I love the Podium speakers,
although I find them harsh at high outputs..
M-10dx to the rescue.. by adjusting the range and frequency,
for the mid EQ (channel specific) any sound I put thru the channel, my
mid control pot adjusted my new eq setting...
immediately taking out the harshness..perfect for my break music. or DJ work.
My G70 organ (drawbar) is really harsh upper end (like the real thing)
needing a volume pedal to tone down the volume.
By setting Q and frequency of mid and hi pots...instantly fixing the Organ..
Thest controls are readily handy ...
a touch of the EQ on what ever channel the organ or break music is on..
All easily set back with touch of a knob..
Another great feature ... save 8 scenes... all settings ,
instant recall, even elaborate FX settings..
another mis understood feature...
there are so many edits available to make vocals shine,
both the voice and effects..
The output effects for final mix of output.. give you a finished sound..
A side note, I have been checking out the new speakers from JBL, QSC, and EV..
.Nice gear, but I noticed the K series when pushed had the same harshness as Podiums..
It 's too bad K series owners don't take advantage of Edirol
or other digital mixers to cut the harshness..
The Eons and EV lower series don't seem to have the same problem as the K series...
but they do not have the same power of the K series.. (half the price)..
