I am going to have my friend play it on his accordion and I will accompany him on the piano.

Here's a rendition by a Sweidish musician. It is amazing that he can put so much expression in sunch a simple melody. It is kind of fun to play with these great musicians on Youtube. It teaches how not to get in the way when playing with others or even with an arranger. I remember some great wisdom in playing with an arranger; don't fight it. The opposite would be "hiding" behind the arranger.
