First thanks to everyone for your thoughts kindness.

I am at home now. My chest pain was not heart related. Something called
Xyphoid Process. They hooked me up to all kinds of machines, did a blood test and basically told me my issue was not being caused by my heart.

Guys, at age 77 it is really scary when you have pain in your chest area that
is intense and does not go away.

To make absolutely sure that I have not developed some sort of heart issue next week I will see a heart doctor and probably setup a stress test.

Once again, thanks for your thoughts and kindness.

Deane

Glad to hear it wasn't a heart problem. That being said, do you carry any nitro glycerin pills with you?
My cardiologist prescribed them just to have with me as a precaution in the event of chest pain.

Deane, When I worked in medicine, I only saw one case of Xyphoid in 15 years, and at that time, which I believe is true today, no one really knew what the cause or trigger mechanism was that produced the pain. The one case I saw that patient was in extreme pain, however, it subsided after just a couple hours and he drove home as if nothing had happened. Just another one of those mysterious pains that never gets diagnosed. Look at the bright side, at least there was someone there that could diagnose the problem, and enlighten you about your heart condition.

All the best,

Gary cool

Thanks Gary,
Yes, the pain was extreme and came and went for 3 days. Probably should have gone in to the ER the first day. For now I am not stressed about the possible heart problem and that is major. Perhaps this is wake up call about a few things I need to have checked out that I have been putting off. So, Monday I will get on the phone and get a few appointments setup with various doctors and make sure I'm not about to have a major problem.

Thanks again Gary,
Deane

Deane ... so happy to hear you are OK ... just if it happens again, don't wait for the third day to get your butt to the ER ...
A number of years ago when I was suffering chest pains etc. from what was finally diagnosed as a bad reflux condition, I was going to the ER about every other week ... one time I apologized to the EMT and he said "Don't apologize, just make sure you call us anytime it happens" ...

My wife had several episodes that exactly mimicked heart attack. Finally diagnosed as Esophageal Spasms.
Got medication that seems to have worked, since it's been a couple of years since she had one.
Keep us posted Deane!
