The iPad will only connect to "Class Compliant" devices, so if you plan to connect to your arranger's USB "To Host" port, that host port must be "Class Compliant". If you plan to connect via 5-pin-DIN MIDI, you will need a "Class Compliant" USB-MIDI Adapter. Amazon has these Adapters starting for about $10 USD, but for reliable operation, you need to stay with the name brands (M-Audio, EMU, Yamaha, Roland/Edirol, etc), which typically go for about $50-$60. In either case, if you have an older iPad, you will also need a Camera Connection Kit, as that is the older models' interface to the "outside world".
