Been there, friend. But, every time, I heard a new song that put me right back in the race. Songs like Walk don't Run as a 12 year old. Spring can really hang you up. Masquerade. In the Wee Small Hours of the Morning.
Learning this material and putting your style stamp on it does wonders for the spirit.
I was cut badly on the left hand and never fully recovered. I was feeling sorry for myself. Then I heard a relative unknown play Europa at a summer NAMM (Frankie Ciella? great player!).
That did it. Now, I'm plying 60 hours a month in a studio on national films, do about 20 other scores for individual clients, play 4 nights a week at a club on piano and many other jobs; some with my son (bass) and grandson (drums).
Take a week off, but keep your ears open. And, play while you can. I know my years are numbered, but I'll hang in there until the end, which is at the point where I'll embarrass myself.
When it's over, instead of being sad, I'll be so thankful for the years I was able to "ENJOY THE GREAT RIDE".
All the best.,..
Russ
