Dick Conditino's bellows shaking was not really the right way, but it really did have "visual" and dramatic effects. .........Some people complain about the showy stuff, but Contino had great arrangements..........I highly respect Contino for his musicianship.
Exacly! When I was a boy, I didn't aspire to be the President, or an astronaut, or a movie star. I wanted to be like Dick Contino, period. My goodness, good he shake the stuffings out of that accordion when he did those Ed Sullivan appearances.
And, you're right.......great arrangements. He also wrote a song called The One Finger Melody which he recorded on one of his albums. Absolutely beautiful song......full of emotion.
Magnante was great but too sterile.....every note in place. With Contino you never knew where the notes were going to fall!
Magnante was Mr. Clean, while Dick was Mr. Excitement!
