Excerpt from a Rick Wakeman magazine article:
Rick Wakeman, too, helped push the keyboard technology along. His penchant for surrounding himself with keyboards during shows' -- sometimes stacked upon one another -- was part stagecraft, yes, but part artistic necessity. "People forget there weren't even music stands back then or keyboard stands," Wakeman said. "I mean, I used to go out and buy a chest of drawers from furniture shops, take the drawers out, cut them up, and that's what I used to put my keyboards in! "I used to go around to keyboard companies and say, 'Build stands.’ And they laughed at me: They said, `Look, you're the only idiot that puts keyboards on top of one another; so what's the point of building stands?"'
