Great write up by Bad Mister, I have a lot of respect for him.

My thoughts on the Genos is that it pretty much is what all the Tyros 3 and onwards should have been...

BUT I still fail to learn HOW the Genos is NOT a new version of a tyros that is wrapped in black casing, a new operating system, touch screen and less buttons with some new knobs and a joystick... If it were called Tyros 6 it would still make sense to me...

After looking through the specs I cant see anything that really differentiates itself from the typical Arranger category...

After watching the Sweetwater demo video from Martin Harris about the Genos, if you closed your eyes and imagined every time he said "Genos" and swapped it with "Tyros", you could actually substitute that video for a Tyros. there is actually no difference other than the part where he mentions the knobs and "touch screen".

Montage against Motif - yes - definitely they are two completely unique devices... but Genos and Tyros.. I dont see it.

Im still probably going to by the Genos lol

Nick

Genos $5499... Montage 7 $3499

$2000 difference in advertised price!

Paying for the content?

Genos is targeted at professional song writers?!?

I just want the right sounds and effects to make a "kick butt" backing track to sing songs to brighten someone's day. I want the enjoyment of building the arrangement from the ground up. Simple.

Can't wait to hear and touch a Genos!

The $5000 price of the Tyros/Genos vs Montage may be nothing more than Yamaha perceives that the average person who buys their arrangers has the financial ability and the willingness to pay more so they charge more.

^ I've no doubt that Yamaha do their market research carefully. You may well be right about that.

Yamaha will shoot themselves in the foot if they release the new S series replacement MOTL arranger....they want to sell as many Genos units first at 5k then maybe a year later bring out to lower less featured model makes sense.

I seriously doubt that you will see a NEW S series keyboard until the middle of next fall.

Great find Eric

Good read.. and very imteresting..

Also proofs that according to Yamaha USA, the Genos does not need deep synth edditing and other pro features because if you need those, you need to buy the Montage

Makes me wonder why Korg still puts in all the effort to have a full blown synth engine and all those other pro features in the Pa4x... because according to bad mister, Genos users do not need nor want them...

Because most of the pros that know their stuff will most likely choose Pa4x over Genos or Tyros. Pro players like to have options.
