It has been a while since I considered a software based arranger but the example Bill provided via the link sure looks impressive.

Do you know if there is a version available for the Linux Mint Operating System? (It is a GUI type OS and free.)

Cost and learning curve would be my primary concerns... but do you also recommend using a dedicated, normally "off-line" computer as an added security measure? I know that updates and Virtual Instruments would require being "on-line" briefly.

I view the internet with much distrust these days.

Thanks for sharing your ideas and opinions. ----Dave Rice

The present softsynth is okay, but not, IMO, top grade.

The easiest VST to integrate, should be Halion Sonic 3 which could be expanded with Halion 6 if required.

The problem for me is....the content is not ready to go....if you like do it yourself and like to create it's fine...I had VA2 for a while.

I have decided I want to sit down and play...not put everything together myself so I can sit down and play.
Of course styles are no issue...but to me they don't sound as good as HW arrangers....and usually need some kind of tweeking.

I think content is the biggest thing you pay for in a HW arranger.....IMHO.

I'm with you on this one Lee --- more play and less stuff is more fun. (For me). Sax, guitar, violin, you just pick up and play.

Only my opinion, John C.

PS, I must admit that in my Kn7000 days I did a great deal tech work.

Last time i checked, Dann told me there where 4 soundpackages available for the 4 main synth brands (yamaha, korg, ketron, roland) each at a cost of €100.. i only saw possitive comments on the sound quallity...

I hoped this would be the step required to make it a full software setup...

About $400 for SW.... need a MIDI keyboard ($100 - $400)...a decent modern PC....and of course a audio sound system.
Sound modules/VST of course are needed... that is a very variable cost....but to start you can use the built in sounds.

More info go to V Arranger web site and forums.
