THere's nothing wrong with PA1000. It is a great keyboard, ton of features and very good sounds and styles.

It is the EXPECTATIONS and maybe the COMPARISON that give it a colour (not a red one...) of being disapointing. But that is always user's perception.

There really aren't bad keyboards anymore, in this regard.

I was a Korg guy first, but when my friend had his Tyros sounding so good , I wanted that sound too. But Tyros $$ wasn't in the budget for me so I bought a psr 950. Coudn't get that TOTL sound out of the MOTL arranger and didn't keep it. If I wasn't comparing chances are it "may" have worked. Went back to Korg for awhile (preferred the navigation), but what am I playing today? His old Tyros..

So is a TOTL keyboard a model (or two) back a better near equal $$ investment than a new MOTL keyboard all things considered?

And thanks for sharing your experience Jim. Not pleasant when it involves so much stress, work, and money that is not easy to come by these days.

Jim, I would buy it. I am just about half the globe away...

All things considered and excluding the confort-zone with a previously owned model, no I do not believe last generation of Pa TOTL (Pa3x) is better than the actual MOTL (Pa1000). Of course there are better things about it, but overall Pa1000 is an improved model, just simply the next gen with sounds and features.

That being said, I am very happy with my little recently bought S770. My first Yamaha ever.

Very Cool Adim,

Surprised to see you in a Yamaha smile Now I know you aren't hearing well smile Kidding aside, it's all good. The 1000 really is a beauty, in a lot of ways, but all the wrong ways for me (I'm very picky too). I played another big gig today, new place, good money and the 3X just plain shines!

smile Yeah, thanks, my wife keeps telling me that too! I guess must be something in there!

Of course there is nothing weirds with liking the previous model better - just look at Technics guys how happy they are with their keyboards, or G70 players who do not even think of changing to anything else. So, I could only be happy for you being happy with Pa3x.

For me, the new generation of Pa did address something I wanted to hear in Korgs, a little better drums, with more natural feel to it. I think they did it very nicely with Pa4x and then Pa700 followed. And I was lookin long and hard to both Pa700 and Pa1000, but then I decided much to my own surprise, to try Yamaha this time. I had Korg, I had Roland, now I went with Yamaha - all MOTL arrangers, because I was always looking for the best BANG for the BUCK. I love this american expression! And I just wanted to try the smoothness of Yamaha styles this time around instead of glitchiness of Korg's fill-ins for ballads. smile

And because I am not in the full-time work with arrangers, I could never justify the top costs for the TOTL, even though of course I would have love it. But I am at peace with that.

Then I suddenly found a price drop for the little S770 that I just could not refuse. Brand new, with strong bag, stand, pedal, headphones - the regular pack, for about $900 - that is a very good price, in here at least.

Getting used to it, as with any other new keyboard, is quite a process, but I take it slowly and it is in fact very enjoyable. This little thing is not bad at all, and while before really looking at this Yamaha I thought is only Korg who has great value for the lower costs keyboards, I got to understand differently. Actually all of them follow the same principle: paying 80% more for something will only give you at most 20% better quality. I could write a whole essay about this, but other people, wiser than me, did it already.

Anyway, I guess just as you are happy with top last gen, I am with middle/low last gen. smile

All the best!

Adi

Adi, You are wiser than me. I took the plunge and hopefully won't lose much on this thing. They are not jumping off the shelves, as some would want you to believe. Enjoy your new toy!!!

Going to get in my Jeep and try to negotiate 8 - 10" of snow here for a couple jobs, with the 3X smile
