Probably shouldn’t have, but the promotion was just a bit too good to pass up. And, I can send it back if I want to.

I’m looking to use the two, as a pair, in smaller gigs.

First gig back since hip replacement will be next week.

😊

15 lbs... 30 total!! Easier to carry and you could be in stereo. If you enjoy it, do it. Hope the gig goes well for you!! Let us know how it goes! Video would be great!!

Did you get the battery for the S1? If I would do 2 units, I’d get a battery for one. I would just like the option for really small gigs or when I teach music parts for theatre.

Congrats on the "Double"! Can't have too many Bose products! Looks like a great lightweight solution!

A pity you didn't order a JBL Eon 206p to compare... Just 11 kilograms for stereo, very powerful, bass to 62Hz too.

But on the other hand I understand, it's a matter of being enthusiastic about a specific speaker or instrument, not just rational, we all know that I guess.

Tx for asking.

Surgery was a little over three months ago. My right hip was replaced and that went well.

However, within a few weeks I was back in the hospital. First time in intensive care with what was described as a septic infection. My wife was told to prepare for the possibility I wouldn’t make it. However,4 days of IV meds later, I was home. Next issue was a blood clot...DVT they call it...but that seems to be getting better.

So, recouperation/healing is happening but slowly.

Since I’m going back to gigging, just a bit, I’ve been advised to go as light as I can on equipment....hence the S1 Pro.

I’m guessing the 206p works well for you. You may have noticed a JBL system in my signature. JBL is good stuff. I really like my JBL Eon One...just a bit more than I want to carry right now.

A few of the reasons I kept the Bose S1 Pro after trying it out:

1. Small, Compact, Light

2. Easy to carry

3. Incredible sound and volume for its size.

4. 3 channels and Bluetooth.

When you experience the S1 Pro, you’ll understand why many like it...very rational decision to buy.

😊

Glad you are on the mend, and in the future, any time you go for dental work make sure you take heavy antibiotics ... infections can grab onto a prosthesis and there's no blood flowing through to get rid of them ...

Take it light on the gig ...

Very similar to what happened to me when I had the defibrillator implant. Still fighting the infection, but it looks better since they went back in and cleaned it up. The infection had not reached the device, so that is good.
I'm glad you have beaten it!

This video is a little helpful to assess its sound if you know how a Bose Sounddock portable sounds. It is a comparison of two completely different systems, but it gives a rough idea. He ran the Sounddock at nearly maximum, the JBL Eon 206p at below 50 percent volume. The comparison starts at 6:20.

Tx for the comments. It was a pretty scary time. Even dental work now requires antibiotics. I’m holding off on dental work for a while.

I probably shouldn’t be buying any new equipment with my health history.

But I guess it’s my way of saying I’ll be around for a while. 😊👍👍

The Bose soundock is a home sound system, the S1 Pro is a portable PA.

Best to actually hear the S1 up close to compare.

On Sweetwater’s website, there are already 35 reviews and at 4.5 stars. That signals, I would think, a pretty good new product.

About the only way to judge the S1 Pro, IMHO, is to get up close and personal with one...pretty surprising what it can do....pricey? Yes.

The Sounddock only serves as a reference in that video, he could have chosen anything to compare. Of course I have no intention to put a Sounddock Portable in the same category as the S1 Pro, I‘m far from doing that, the video was about the Eon 206p.

With my health, right now, I don't buy anything that cannot be consumed in a single meal. Tomorrow, I'm off to the local radiology center to get a cat scan of my kidneys and lungs. Things are not looking good for this old codger, but I can assure you it has been one Hell of a ride.

Good luck,

Gary cool

How do you think the (2) speakers would do when put on (1) pole and use some extender arms? Light enough, might work. One pole, stereo field, but not real wide.

I am trying to lighten my load too. I have a lot of jobs and it would be great to get stuff in our smaller car (gas).

Here's my thoughts, rid the (2) QSC10s and opt out for a pair of S1s. (I can hear the hiss and boos already).

My opinion on the Bose Compact was not high, but mono too. This created a thin piano. However, all other sounds seem to be fantastic, as with vocals.

If I spring for the 4X, my hope is to have the most pristine sound available to the audience.

Any thoughts?

Jim, when I was lugging around a pair of Barbetta Sona 32-SC speakers and the poles, which seemed like a century ago, I loved what I heard, but soon realized that I was getting too old to put those speakers on poles and in reality, never really needed that much power (450-watts RMS each). Even when performing in the nite clubs and restaurants with younger crowds, 900-watts RMS was overkill. Consequently, when I went to the Bose L1 PAS system, I was elated. The weight was reduced dramatically, no more dangerous poles to contend with, and my biggest concern was people trying to lean against the tower as if it were some type of leaning post. I pretty much solved the problem by placing a "Danger - High Wattage" sign on the post in bright, red and yellow letters, which kinda scared most folks from touching the tower. It was almost funny to watch them reach for the tower to lean on then noticed the sign and quickly pulled their hand back as if they would be electrocuted. smile

Now, I know that Yamaha pianos are heavily stereo sampled, so I went about creating my own, custom, mono piano that has been downloaded thousands of times and used by lots of pro entertainers on this and the PSR Tutorial forum. It sounds thick, full bodied, but still crisp and clean. It solved the problem. Most of the other voices sounded just fine in mono.

When I switched to the L1 Compact, again, I initially went with mono, and that single L1 Compact covered 99 percent of all my audiences without every having a complaint or problem. For the bigger jobs, though, 150 or more audience members, I used a pair of them in stereo, which sounded a bit fuller and provided fantastic coverage for audiences to 300 people, indoors or outdoors. I rarely had to use that second amp, but I had it in the office and ready to go, just in case. I eventually sold it to one of the other local players who had a pair of monsters on poles. I think they were Peavey SP5Gs that tipped the scales at 60-pounds each. After using the Bose L1 Compact for two days, he sold those Peavies to the highest Ebay bidder. He plays an old Korg and a tenor sax, often just uses the Korg for midi files to back his sax and singing. He primarily performs at a high end Italian restaurant northeast of Baltimore on US 40.

For me, the Bose systems have been phenomenal during the past decade or more, and I would never consider going back to a conventional sound system. This is especially true for those of us who rely heavily on our vocals during a performance. The Bose systems provided the clearest vocals of any sound system I have used or heard in more than 50 years on stage. Nothing else came remotely close.

Good luck on whatever you decide upon,

Gary cool

Thx for the replies.

Gary, I know you've had great success with the Bose and I really need to explore again. I might try one at GC this week.

Donny, I simply need two stereo pieces and prefer not the sub woofer system. Are they same as the Nano company products, which I didn't care for.

Gary !!! Great idea !!! I'm going to pull the trigger on a pair of Eon Ones and I never thought of people touching the poles. But they will as they have done with my regular speaker stands. Going to the local Electrical Supply house and get me some stickers. Maybe put one on my keyboard too and then look at people fun when they ask "why don't you get shocked"
Good luck with your test tomorrow. Hang in there we're all wishing you the best.

Thx Donny, but way overkill to haul. The S1s are so very light and I'm thinking (2) would sound amazing. I am comparing to my QCSK10s - wonderful, but toooooooo much.

It's all what we are used to hearing too. I prefer my bass with my horns, in my ears, a bit behind me. The floor stuff just doesn't work for my ears, plus I'd rather not crawl around on the floor.

I had a hard time getting from a squat position and a wheelchair bound lady tried to assist me smile

What is there not to like about the sound of the HK Nano 600??

In this German Montage demo with Bert Smorenburg a Nano 608i seems to be used.

Love Maui 5s by LD Systems. Half the price of the Bose Compacts, deeper bass, more controls, more power, Bluetooth...and more.

Out of curiosity, how do you use the Mauii 28’s differently than your Mauii 5?

However, to answer your question, the SSV.3 is a great PA but somewhat lacking in bass and close to 35lbs.

Thanks for all the responses.

My original purpose in buying the Bose S1 Pro was for a practice amp and small, intimate gigs.

When I tried the S1 out, I realized that the S1 had potential for larger settings. Although, truth be known, I won’t know if one Bose S1 works in a larger setting until I try it at a gig next week.

The other, for me, larger issue is weight. Two Bose S1’s weigh less than any other single amp I have.

I would not have ordered another S1 but the place I got the first one had a promotion. So I ordered it with the understanding that I could send it back.

Any of the PA/AMPS mentioned in this thread are excellent depending on their purpose used.

I have heard the lack of bass from others with the SSV.v3 also that's a shame it's a nice concept..

The Maui 28s are for big gigs much more power and a different speaker array design,....the Maui 5's for smaller venues...

Good luck with whatever rig you put together.....speakers are only a means to an end,.....it's what goes thru them and out to the audiences that matters every single time.

Ironically, all of the big bands, both large and small, even orchestras, when amped, which most are, are amped in mono - not stereo. I don't need no skinkin' stereo! wink

OK, one more post, off to a job, in a 5 - 9" winter storm warning!

Before I turned on the 2nd speaker last night, I tried mono. Half my instruments were gone, or compressed into one local sound. When I turned the 2nd on, the audience gasped - I had them listen and tell me....unbelievable difference, to our ears. Now, not a physics major, but just the piano alone filled the entire room. Add the beautiful ensembles and band and there is no way I can get that sound in mono (Gary thanks for your piano too, I liked it).

I still want to explore the S1s in stereo, because I did like the detail of the Compact, years back.

Jim, if you were still plugged into both the audio outs and just turned off the amp, the result would be, as expected, just a single channel coming out of one side of the keyboard. In order for the keyboard to sum both channels into the mono channel, you must unplug the Right channel plug. What your audience was hearing was just the right channel of the keyboard and no left sounds would be coming out at all if the plug remained in place. It's the way it is wired and the jack switching configuration. Try doing the same comparison again, but instead unplug the Right channel and allow the sounds to come out of the Left/Mono into a single amp.

Good luck, and I'm glad you liked that piano,

Gary cool

Ok Gary. I'll give it a shot when i set up in a few minutes. So, routing through a mixer first?

No, going through a mixer doesn't work when doing this type of comparison because you still have those plugs plugged into the back of the keyboard. Within the Left/Mono plug and the Right plug, there are leaf switches that direct the signals. Consequently, this prevents you from playing in mono if you merely turn off the amp on one side of the mixer or turn down that channel in the mixer going to one of the keyboard's outputs. When you plug a jack into the Left/Mono and nothing into the right output, the leaf switch connects the outputs together internally to that single output. However, if you plug into just the Right output and nothing into the left, then you would only get the sounds from the right channel and nothing from the left.

Jim, you can always call me on the telephone if you need help with any of this stuff. This time of year, I'm around the house most of the time. I will PM you the telephone number.

I don't know...tried both ways and when I add the 2nd speaker, oh man. I hear a huge difference, so I'll stick with 2 at this time. Still think the S1s would be the ticket, on one pole, with the extender to house both speakers.

Jim, I would anticipate that you would get a lot fuller, more vibrant sound with two systems in stereo. That's the nature of the beast. smile

I've been using stereo since the early 80's. It's what I want to hear.
