Can you tell me what this "free" version actually is. I can assume you can edit wave files nowadays. I don't want to dive back into the technology software stuff. Is this "free" package simple enough to work with for basic needs. I can't figure out exactly what it does from the screen shot.....or.....from the Cakewalk description.

I like Cakewalk but back in the old days it was a simple program that filled your needs at the time.

Over the years Cakewalk changed it's name to Sonar and expanded capability greatly especially in audio, audio effects and virtual instruments.

The original "simple" cakewalk is still lurking in there but the options now available by default cover a very wide scope.

Nevertheless you can customize and save "views" of the program to let you concentrate on just the functionality that you use the most. Admittedly this is something I've never got around to.....

MacAllcock....thanks for that info. I think you did me a favor. I'm just going to leave it alone. I've got enough on my bucket list right now....still learning French!

That is awesome. I recently bought a 24 bit audio converter that came with free Cubase AI which I absolutely hated. I am going to download Cakewalk and try that instead. I loved Cakewalk back in the 90s so I think this will work great from me.

I installed no problem, now to figure out why I did, other than it was free, and the big boys use DAW's.

Well Cakewalk was bought by Roland...
After that it was sold Gibson in 2013
Who pulled the plug out of it

Bandlab, the new owner boight the name cakewalk
As well as all the sourcecode

This company probably has commercial plans with the product after the free release
Like selling content..

I just tested it out, had a look at it and deinstalled..

Logic is just to good, to try anything else for basic DAW thingies
And its got lifetime free updates.
Also still have a copy of ableton live.. but thats version8, while they are at 10 now.. love the features on that DAw.. but if you don't use it live... they are mostly not so usefull

I've installed it, no worries. Edited a couple of midi files. The piano roll editor handling of controller data is much better for me as I'm running on a laptop with a lower resolution screen. Like other music programs you really need the biggest screen possible.

Current issue is tryibg to record multi track audio on usb from a Behringer X18 using ASIO drivers on Windows 10. Was working with Sonar X3, currently looks fine but no signal. Not sure if this is a real problem or a settings issue.
