Don't get me wrong but I love my headworn mic. It gives me total freedom of movement and being blind in my right eye, the ability to see my ipad better without obstructions like a mic in my face. But I can sing with better control without having to fiddle with the volume control all the time. I can set my handheld mic just a little bit too loud and back off to get the right balance between soft and loud passages. Yes I know, breath control is the key but your expression is limited with the headset. Breath control means you must hold back in spots. That means you can't get as much power to sing clearly in spots that are very soft in the first place.
Just my thoughts.

Very valid point. Phrasing and dynamics are critical points for good singing. Eaxh mic system has its pros and cons and Its been discussed here before. I briefly tried a headset but go with a fixed mic on a boom arm. Others swear by their headsets, whatever is best for your total predormace.

I hear ya MEL. Wireless is so difficult for me too. The breathing part is something that I could not control. Half the time, I felt like passing out from holding my breath, so not to sound like I was running a marathon smile

I suppose if you want to eliminate the breathing issues, etc, then a TOTL wireless headworn would cost $$$. The cheap stuff doesn't cut it.

I was hoping for answers like this. I keep trying my headset but nothing beats the warmth of my trusty sampson Q7. My favorite mic. Thanks for confirming that I an not crazy.Well at least not about this.

I tried several headset mics before I began using the Crown CM311A. While not the most comfortable mic, it absolutely is the best headset mic I found for breath control, feedback rejection, tonal quality and elimination of outside noise. Yes, it is expensive, but no more expensive than my Sennheiser high end mics. Ironically, breath sounds are completely eliminated when the mic is touching your lips while performing. This is clearly spelled out in the user manual.

Good luck,

Gary cool

Too much extra stuff too. With the mic boom quick disconnect, setup is a breeze and you know it will deliver smile
